There was a time when the work we’re doing now was viewed as taboo and almost delusional by those from 6 to 10 years ago. Under pressure, I created a comprehensive framework—I literally wrote a book on it “ Theoretical Framework for Social Media Dependency Disorder “ -2017 ( Picked Up By College Of Creative Studies for MFA ( Master Of Fine Arts Program ) as a Reference —and now I’m criticized for it. Despite being told almost daily that I and Team probably the most outspoken advocate in the United States who are intentionally overlook “ you’ll be surprised how small the industry is “ , that’s not why I do this. LinkedIn is the only platform where I can share my message without gatekeepers, allowing everyone to see the who, what, when, how, and even the timestamp of our work. When the Social Media Research Institute introduces a new framework addressing “Disorder, Theory, Harm Reduction, and First Aid”—nearly a trifecta + —what’s next? The answer is clear! We need to build a formidable network of advocates worldwide, some in the public eye and others behind the scenes, but all united by the same goal and dedicated to expanding the framework. We are doing it, just takes time and massive amount of resources and proper leadership.

TBH, the whole application process can feel messy and overwhelming 🙃  Pairing it with ADHD makes it feel nearly impossible. And while you might not be able to escape it immediately, you can make it so much more bearable by making information more accessible to you and focusing on the essentials. When applying, keep your resume open and copy-paste the necessary information. Only fill out the required fields. For example, if they ask for your most recent job but not the rest, only enter the required job. If experience is required but education isn’t, just fill in the experience. If possible, write “see resume” in fields where it’s allowed. The Social Media Research Institute's objectives for 2024 are as follows: 1. Grants and Private Funding: - Secure grants and private funding to support ongoing research initiatives, ensuring financial sustainability and the ability to delve into relevant social media topics. 2. Partnerships (National and International): - Forge strategic partnerships both nationally and internationally to enhance collaboration, share insights, and broaden the scope of social media harm reduction . 3. Events for Researchers to Meet and Connect: - Organize two to three events aimed at bringing researchers together, fostering connections, and facilitating collaboration across geographical regions – West, East, and Overseas. 4. Collaboration with Social Media Lobbyists: - Collaborate with social media lobbyists to advocate and promote "Social Media First Aid" as a national standard in public schools and government programs. This involves pushing for comprehensive educational initiatives to equip individuals with the necessary skills to navigate and manage social media responsibly. www.SMRI.World

💬 ON WEDNESDAY I did my first live over on Instagram in a while with a fellow industry professional Sandra McCoy. Between us we have (ahem) nearly 60 years of industry experience & so we couldn’t help but have a stroll down memory lane & chat about the trajectory we had been down to gain our Quals & hone our craft. I came up with the prospective title for my book (that I haven’t written yet) ‘White tights & headbands’ …Catchy? Would you read it? 👀 inspired by how we had to wear such items before being allowed to enter the College treatment bays. We spoke of the struggles within our industry to regulate practice & how important it is to do your homework when it comes to seeking out a therapist/Aesthetician or if you want to train, a certified training school. One of the main takeaways that I reflected on is this need now to rush the journey. There are lots of one week even one day (yikes) courses because it appears that ‘we’ are all is a bit of a hurry to get on with whatever that role is. Quick fixes that ultimately don’t last. Anything worth doing takes time, energy, hard work, dedication & passion. Often with a lot of guidance, support & nurturing. Part of the brand I am building & part of the joy is being able to give a little bit of that guidance, support & to nurture the Professionals joining our community of stockists. Today I had the honor to serve with Amber M Brown, MS, LPC-IL, NCC, CCMC on a panel for America's Urban Campus moderated by Ingrid Prioleau Byrd, Ph.D., NCC, LPC-IL. The topic was Supporting Students’ Mental Health – Tips for Addressing Trauma and Engagement. More specifically, we discussed the connection between mental health and career development and what college career professionals can do to help students they work with who are also dealing with mental health concerns. This is such an important topic, and we had a great conversation. As usual, in addition to providing my own thoughts, I learned from Amber and others who shared valuable tips and resources. Its not all 🌈s and 🦄 s ⬇️ I know some of you are getting those dreaded emails delivering the news that you haven't been selected for a place on the doctorate. I remember it well... It sucks. Imagine this, the first time I applied for training everything was done by post. I can just remember opening letters that I knew were Nos. 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ Bleugh... yeah it just sucked. But all is not lost. I say, allow yourself to feel however you feel about it and find ways to release that energy. For many of us, talking to someone who gets us can be so cathartic and effective in helping us to feel a bit better. Sure, there are other ways to get that energy out, like through baking, journaling or walking (do whatever works for you!). But talking to someone has that added benefit of (hopefully) getting some warm compassion from someone who makes us feel safe.
