To celebrate World Environment Day, the First American (India) Facilities and Workplace Services team organized a series of events and initiatives. ABCD (Anybody Can Draw), a drawing contest to channel creativity while encouraging awareness for employees and their family members, was extremely well received with a whopping 82 participants across different age groups. The winners across each age group will be presented with Eco-friendly goodies. Participation certificates for everyone will be printed of course on 100% recycled paper! A Tree Planting Campaign saw the distribution of 375 tree saplings across all FAI campuses. At the Bangalore campus, where the cafeteria generates food waste each month, effective waste segregation at source and a display that shows the amount of food wasted each day continues to raise awareness among employees. Our in-house organic waste converter and grease separator converts food waste into manure, which was distributed to employees for use at home as part of our World Environment Day initiatives. We should also consider this factor when consuming products.
The Clear Choice: Advancing Sustainability Through Clear Packaging As Director of Badri Group, a major recycling player handling 6 million bottles daily, I advocate for a shift in India's big brands toward clear packaging. Green bottles, long favored in the beverage industry, pose a recycling challenge, hindering efficiency and escalating costs. Clear packaging offers a straightforward solution, enhancing recyclability and reducing environmental impact. While concerns over brand identity may arise, strategic branding and consumer education can address these worries. In conclusion, the time is ripe for big brands in India to embrace clear packaging, aligning with consumer values and advancing sustainability goals. Together, we can forge a greener future, where every bottle embodies our commitment to the planet. #Sustainability #Recycling #Environment #GreenInitiative #ConsumerAwareness

As Chairman & MD of BVG India Ltd., I have dedicated over 27 years to improving facility management services across India. Today, I want to take a moment to highlight an issue that is close to my heart: the urgent need to raise awareness about cleanliness, avoid plastic use, and protect our atmosphere. Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental challenges we face today. It not only harms wildlife but also impacts our health and the health of our planet. At BVG India Ltd., we are committed to leading by example and promoting sustainable practices. Here are a few simple steps we can all take to make a positive impact: (1) Reduce Plastic Use: Opt for reusable bags, bottles, and containers instead of single-use plastics. (2) Recycle Properly: Make sure to separate recyclables from your waste and dispose of them correctly. (3) Participate in Clean-Up Drives: Join community clean-up events to help keep our surroundings clean and green. (4) Spread Awareness: Educate your friends and family about the importance of reducing plastic use and keeping our environment clean. Let's work together to create a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations. Recently, our Sandesh Potekar and his team cleaned 5 tons of garbage from the Chandrabhaga River at Pandharpur Maharashtra. I invite you all to share your thoughts and initiatives on this important issue. Together, we can make a lasting difference! We presented our findings and recommendations from our baseline study at the 'Plastic Circular Cities' event organized by ISC-India Sanitation Coalition and Godrej Consumer Products Limited in Mumbai this month! The study not only maps the current state of #wastemanagement in Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar, but also charts a future where these areas are celebrated for their environmental stewardship. Our recommendations are rooted in a thorough assessment of these urban areas and lead to a roadmap for the second phase. Our interventions in high density areas of the pilot region will enable circularity, by - 1. focusing on hard-to-recycle plastics, including marine litter 2. fostering 360 degree tech-innovation across the value chain 3. nurturing public private partnerships Corporate funders, ULB representatives and other ecosystem partners were invited to witness the culmination of first phase ISC's initiative in finding the way forward to a circular economy across different regions in Maharashtra. Kudos to the entire team for unfolding the ground realities of waste systems in these cities - Meha (Shrivastava)Lahiri , Meha Kumar ,Yashesh Panchal Abhijeet Paradkar , Akhilesh Mohan and everyone else that made it happen! Our gratitude to the Municipal Corporations of both cities for their support. Embracing Sustainability in the Workplace: A Journey Towards Innovation and Tradition Sustainability practices in business operations and the workplace are more than just trends; they represent a transformative approach to thinking, fostering creativity and innovation in pursuit of both short-term and long-term sustainable goals. To truly embed sustainability within a business, the journey begins with individual commitment. Simple actions, like using jute bags for grocery shopping or switching to bamboo water bottles, can set a powerful example. This individual effort can spark a collective movement, creating a chain reaction of sustainable practices. During a recent interview at an inspiring Welcomm Communications company, I noticed a small but significant change: they served drinking water in glass cups instead of disposable paper cups. This thoughtful gesture reminded me of my hometown, #Barahiya, where every household has an earthen pot for cold water instead of electric water coolers. Such traditional practices are inherently sustainable and cost-efficient. Modern workplaces can benefit greatly by reintroducing these age-old, eco-friendly traditions from Indian culture. Not only do these practices reduce costs, but they also contribute significantly to the larger goal of sustainability. By integrating these practices, companies can create a more sustainable and innovative future, rooted in the wisdom of the past. #Sustainability #Reuse #Barahiya #IndianCulture #EcoFriendlyOffice #ZeroWasteOffice #SustainableSolutions

SHIFT 2: Balancing Act: Consumption & Conservation A nuanced understanding is emerging on the complex interplay between consumption and conservation. This is reshaping how we perceive collective action, responsibility, and accountability, ultimately prompting a question of who brings the solutions to conscious consumption. Consumers are looking to policy and private players to address their mounting consumption needs while at the same time managing and measuring environmental impact. They are looking at these powers to take on the role of driving environmental progress, fostering an ecosystem that involves venture capitalists, innovation grants, and major organisations allocating substantial funds for research and development. Meet Eat Raja, India’s first Zero Waste Juice Bar, located just a stone’s throw from IISc. Now, here’s the twist: the founder isn’t an IISc student, but an everyday entrepreneur on a mission to make sustainability not just a buzzword, but a way of life. What earns him applause isn’t a cutting-edge scientific breakthrough, but the art of turning everyday waste into a thriving, eco-friendly business. For over 7 years, Eat Raja has boldly refused single-use disposables, living by the mantra of Refuse, Reduce, Reuse. They’ve ditched plastic cups in favor of serving juices in hollowed-out fruit cups and even created a carbon-neutral mixer from recycled materials—sparking curiosity and teaching kids about sustainability. This reminds me of my presidential days at SEIC, NITP, where we embraced a similar no-waste approach. We reused materials for our ‘Waste Wizard’ inventions at the science club, cutting out plastic and paper altogether. The concept doesn’t stop at one location—it’s spreading across multiple outlets, making us all ask ourselves: how often do we use the science we know in our daily lives? That’s what makes Eat Raja’s approach so inspiring—simple, impactful, and sustainable. Imagine this technique at your gym, where after a treadmill session, users could grind their post-workout juice. Now, that’s a refreshing twist—quite literally! #TechInbanglore #entrepreneurkidda #zspot #fancystyle
