🇺🇸 What is July 4th to the grandnephew of a sharecropper? Growing up, we would rise early to prepare the ingredients for Alabama gumbo on the land we lived on. My Uncle Tommy would use a huge black pot on an open flame, while Aunt Molly seasoned fresh vegetables and meats. The aroma was scrumptious, but under the careful gaze of the white landowner and his wife, we were simply told to "Have a Happy 4th." The Black help, including Ms. Maryanna, spent the day serving Mr. Elmer's family and guests. Our celebration consisted of a new white t-shirt and the annual baseball game—a brief moment of fellowship, fun, and a pause from everyday oppression. We enjoyed hot dogs, fried whiting fish, BBQ chicken, Kool-Aid, and homemade ice cream churned by us kids.Oh and the landowner gave us one Mason jar of the gumbo. Laughter filled the air as the sun set. For this grandnephew of a sharecropper, July 4th is a reminder that we remain in the middle of a mountain. As Gil Scott-Heron sings, we must keep climbing. Today, let's recommit to the struggle. Winter is coming, and my impatient optimism is for ALL who chase liberation to keep climbing. Liberation is not found in the middle of this mountain, and our movement is not a hustle. Liberation in health and healthcare equity is making the impossible possible. It's #Heartwork #IndependenceDay #KeepClimbing #Liberation #SharecropperLegacy #July4th #SocialJustice #ImpatientOptimism

Not only does Feed the Children help children around the world, but they are headquartered right here in OKC making an impact locally, nationally, and globally. I loved getting to attend the grand opening of the FEED's Partner Market! This new program is based out of our distribution center in Oklahoma City where local partner organizations can shop for the products they need - whether that be food, cleaning items, hygiene, and even books. Did you know that 15% of people live below the poverty line right here in Oklahoma City? With the Partner Market, FEED is working to create measurable, sustained impact, and create a world where no child goes to bed hungry. https://lnkd.in/dpg2Jc35
Feed the Children is proud to announce the grand opening of our OKC Partner Market this past week! This pilot program will allow our local partner organizations to self-select the resources they need for their own communities from our distribution center. “Our local community partners don’t have the ability to store pallets of food, but they need a variety that’s right for their community. So we’ve opened our Partner Market, giving them the ability to select foods and essential items that SNAP benefits don’t cover: things like detergent and shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes," said Julie Laird Davis, Sr. Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Individual Giving. Thank you to our partners Oklahoma City Indian Clinic, Sisu Youth Services, the OK City Center, Light and Salvation Church, and Pivot for attending the launch!

The concepts taught at the Ranching for Profit School are designed to not just challenge the way you ranch but can be applied to any business. This is possible because we teach management principles that can help any type of business succeed. While attending out Ranching for Profit School, JR and Jonee Crozier of Buffalo, Wyoming had big paradigm shifts that challenged their way of thinking. They can't wait to make changes to their family ranch operation! #ranching4profit #paradigms #businessowners
