These were the challenging but exciting words we heard last week when two of our own, George Barton-Bull and Chris Williams (who look very happy about it in the photo), attended the #InternationalBeerStrategies Conference in Porto, hosted by Arena International Events Group and GlobalData Plc.
The takeout from the three days was a theme of 'challenging but exciting', something we heard across the programme during what we all know is a volatile time for brewers and consumers.
But as the quote says, there is hope and the opportunity for brands to lead from the front with innovation that meets consumers' changing tastes and social behaviour. This will no doubt blur the line between categories and attract new consumers.
Andy Slee, CEO of the Society of Independent Brewers, recently said, "We need to look at other categories completely away from here to see how they're attracting Gen Z and what solutions they come up with."
