Navigating the complexities of the U.S. wine industry's distribution system has historically been a challenge. The "three-tier system", though designed to prevent monopolistic practices, has limited the modern wine market's potential. Today, as Ohio challenges an Illinois-based shop's shipping endeavors, we stand at a pivotal moment. We will see a breakthrough in direct-to-consumer cross-state wine shipping, or will tradition hold its ground? This verdict could reshape the entire wine retail landscape in the U.S. 🍷🇺🇸 #WineIndustryInsights #RegulationDebate #FutureOfWineRetail. Delve deeper:

As always, Ben is on to something…..BIG! The trick is and always has been, “body count”. It may seem like a simple thought but the initial work of developing a DTC business is getting bodies in your door. Whether you resort to “Burma Shave” signage, balloons on your signs, developing a brand ambassador program, or the myriad of methods to create awareness and excitement, drawing consumers into your tasting room is the topic. People counts and average sale per visitor and average sale by purchase are the next set of KPI’s to start building “efficacy”. How much money do you want to make today in your tasting room? Say you want that number to be $2000. Your average sale is $83. Your average Sale per Visitor is; a. 97% Tasting Customers at $25 b. 64% Bottle Sales c. 2% Club Sales d. 3% Event Sales So how many visitors do you need to pull in the door today to make your $2000 of sales? You do the math here but roughly 25. Change any of these numbers or set goals with active strategies to increase a percentage, and therein lies the refining details of your DTC customer visit and sales goal details. Add private tastings to the mix or any other detail and work it. A/B testing works great to determine methods and approach. Certainly, passive visits because you are “there” isn’t a pragmatic method to pull people in. “So many of us are disappointed at our visitor counts but don’t have a strategy for customer visit development.” I heard one of my friends say they had 10 visitors in a weekend day in Sonoma. Try keeping the lights on there! Looking for answers? Ask and you shall receive! #winemakersforum #WineDTC #finewine #winetasting
