There are probably 20 good pieces written on product management for every 1 written on analytics. I'm not sure why that is, because there is incredible leverage in getting your analytics org right at every stage of growth. Jessica Lachs wrote the best new thing on analytics in a long time: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐠 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 — 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐃𝐚𝐬𝐡. Full essay is below - it is well worth the read.

Agreed Dan Hockenmaier - I’ve found that either the senior leadership doesn’t prioritise a proper data/analytics org from day 1 and it becomes increasingly hard/less sexy to do later down the road. Or. There is a lack of narration ability in being able to highlight the value creation from those that know to those that don’t. Usually a bit of both.

Thanks Dan Hockenmaier! I know we are both extremely passionate about analytics—specifically, how analytics can drive real business impact. It's more than an org structure or a specific capability; it's a way of operating that you want to establish early.

Dan Hockenmaier I am experiencing this disconnect as the founder of a feedback/analytics driven company and not one that is product or product management driven. Companies do not seem to be as interested in collecting and analyzing data from scratch as they are when an issue arises. There is enormous potential in being proactive versus reactive in regards to data and analytics. Is there anything that you can personally share to help me turn 0 to 1?
