In December 2023, Industrial Minerals Ltd completed an initial #drilling program at the Pippingarra Project, designed to validate historical drill data and test for the presence of stacked flat lying pegmatites and massive quartz zones. First results have been received and demonstrate elevated #lithium grades with significant intercepts including 1m @ 1.72% Li2O from 30m, and 2m @ 1.03% Li2O from 37m in INRC002. #IND has also been assessing the prospectivity of the mining leases for high purity #quartz (HPQ), a high demand critical mineral for solar PV, semiconductors, fibre optics and electronics applications. While the ongoing expansion of the charging station network will help to reduce range anxiety, the higher energy density associated with nickel in battery cathodes increases the driving range, or travel distance between charges, for EVs. As expected, nickel manganese cobalt ("NMC") batteries tend to have higher energy density than lithium iron phosphate ("LFP") batteries. EVs accounted for 10% of nickel demand in 2022, up from 2% in 2017, according the the IEA (link to article in comment below). #mining #energytransition #EV #battery #nickel

Further developments in advanced materials R&D suggest the emergence of disruptive technologies which may challenge the current domination of lithium-ion as the key ingredient of batteries. A new roadmap plots development trajectories for solid-state batteries as a safer, higher-energy successor to today's lithium-ion batteries. Hybrid solid electrolyte systems may well emerge as a promising strategy for advancing battery technology and optimising energy storage solutions.
