IDENTITY SHAPER Identity work begins in childhood. Our perspectives around who we are and what we can do is being impacted by our environments. This video shows the impact of the environments around us. It shows how bias can limit or even block the potential in others, it this case our girls! We have a choice to support identity work that will build future leaders to be inclusive and support everyone in belonging. We can close the #dreamgap for our children and also close the gap in our organizations. It’s never to early or to late to grow. May 2022, I stood nervously in Dublin Square, ready to release my core team. It was my first Rotaract appearance as the President, and I felt a surge of excitement mixed with a healthy dose of newbie jitters.  But amidst the chaos, a thought flickered across my mind: I want to make a mark here. Call it manifestation, call it ambition, but that day, I planted a seed of desire. So, I took action. I devoured every Rotaract resource I could find. I volunteered with a fervor that surprised even myself. I sought out opportunities to contribute my ideas and skills to the club. 8th July 2023,  That wide-eyed newbie has been entrusted with an incredible honor – my club the Rotaract Club of Lala Lajpatrai College (Rclalas) was awarded the Best Club in the entire district 3141 amongst 140 plus clubs. This journey has taught me two invaluable lessons: * Manifestation is a powerful tool, but it thrives on action. Wishes alone won't propel you forward. Dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn are the fuel that turns dreams into reality. * Never underestimate the power of initiative. Don't wait for opportunities to come your way. "Don't Celebrate Too Early" A few years ago, I was introduced to whitewater kayaking for the first time. Imagine the thrill of navigating through rough waters, waves crashing, and obstacles challenging my every move. As I approached a small dam with a drop-off, I lined up, shot through the line, and went over. To my surprise, I exited the backdraft of the water and foam upright and exhilarated. In that moment of excitement, I lifted my hands and paddle to celebrate. But then, I heard my buddy shout, "No - don't celebrate - keep paddling!" Sure enough, an undertow caught the edge of my kayak and flipped me over. The lesson was clear: while we want to celebrate our victories or accomplishments, we must not celebrate too long because there is always more work to be done. In our industry, whether managing a team or running a restoration company, it's tempting to bask in our successes. Yet, if we linger too long in celebration, we risk losing the ground we've gained. "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." – Winston Churchill As mid-level managers and owners in the restoration business, let's remember to keep paddling. Every achievement is a step forward, but the river ahead requires our constant attention and effort. Celebrate your victories, but stay focused and keep moving forward.
