Want to get better at asking for referrals? Provide context on the who, what, where, and why… If you can take the groundwork out of the equation, you will put the referrer in a much better position to make the referral! The “groundwork” could be as simple as sharing something this previously unknown contact posted that you thought was interesting or compelling, a problem or solution their company is solving where you have domain expertise, some overlap from a network perspective, or some other commonality. Regardless of the connection, take the time to make a referral as easy as possible. If you can alleviate the work needed to make a referral, the likelihood of you getting the actual referral increases ten fold.
