The pathway is always regulate, relate, and only then reason. Children aren't great at self-regulating and most often need to co-regulate with an adult. A dysregulated adult cannot help co-regulate a dysregulated child. #preschool #relationshipsmatter #childhood #earlychildhoodeducation #childrensmentalhealth #childwelfare #parenting

Norwescap Child and Family Resource Services works through a strength-based model to support children and families, we are excited to recognize Child Abuse Prevention month and Autism Awareness in April! All Norwescap CFRS staff are trained in the Strengthening Families model for working with families. The objective of the Strengthening Families Initiative is to prevent child abuse and neglect through five protective factors. Some practices that CFRS has adopted that align with the protective factors include monthly parent support groups, connecting families with resources to support them, offering education about child development, and providing childcare assistance to eligible families. We also offer Connections Matter training to both families and childcare providers. This training is through Prevent Child Abuse NJ. According to Connections Matter, "Every day connections are more important than we ever believed. Science tells us that relationships have the power to shape our brains. Relationships help us learn better, work better, parent better. When we experience tough times, they help us heal. With each connection, we develop a healthier, stronger community."
