It's #WomensHistoryMonth! A time when we celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in our society, and also a moment to acknowledge the systemic barriers that prevent many women from reaching their full potential. Women’s incarceration rates have been growing at twice the rate of men’s over the past few decades, which means the barriers to employment, safe housing, and new opportunities continue to grow. Not only do those barriers affect women, but research shows that when women are shut out of the workforce, children are far more likely to end up in poverty. At The Clean Slate Initiative, we’re working to ensure millions of women with records have the support they need to achieve their goals. I had these same experiences… In the rooms where the decision makers let their hair down and their real intentions were shown. It was disappointing. It also taught me, women do run circles around many men which is exactly why their use their power to keep us off the playing field. Enough is being revealed. We can shift the economics - we are the ones who make those buying decisions. Who can we work with to restructure the supply? Who can we work with to realign the environments?
