Bowel cancer ranks as the 4th most prevalent form of cancer, underscoring the importance of early detection and prevention strategies. The NHS extends bowel cancer screening to individuals 58 y.o. and older, a proactive measure to identify potential issues before they escalate. The screening process focuses on detecting trace amounts of blood in feces, a potential indicator of polyps or the presence of bowel cancer, allowing for timely intervention. Source: www.nhs.uk In cases where individuals are ineligible for NHS testing or prefer more frequent screenings, the Silex Bowel Health Self-test offers a convenient alternative, providing rapid results within 5-10 minutes.

CEO and Managing Director of Lungscreen Foundation | Industrial Lung Screening | Lung Cancer Screening | Lung Nodule Management | Radiology | Thoracic Imaging | Helping Save Lives by Detecting Lung Disease Early
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, but early detection through screening can save lives. The CDC highlights that 7 out of 8 adults who meet screening criteria do not undergo the recommended screening. Healthcare providers should discuss lung cancer screening with adults aged 55-80 who have a heavy smoking history (30 pack-years or more) and those who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. Screening with low-dose CT scans can detect lung cancer early when it is most treatable. Encouraging eligible patients to get screened can significantly improve early detection and outcomes. Early detection is crucial in the fight against lung cancer. #lungscreen #healthcare #diagnosis

Beyond the increasing incidence rates, the EU is facing challenges across the cancer continuum—from prevention to survivorship—that continue to contribute to a high burden of cancer and suboptimal cancer control. Moreover, disparities in quality of and access to cancer care across the EU continue to be stark.

Did you know that March is Colorectal Cancer Education and Awareness Month? This month, it's important to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, screening, and promoting health equity in the fight against colorectal cancer. Here are a couple of key facts about colorectal cancer: ➡️ Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women. ➡️ Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers through early detection. If you want to reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer and improve overall health outcomes, getting routine screenings is key. However, it's essential to acknowledge that not all communities have equal access to preventive healthcare measures. Cancer prevention and health equity go hand-in-hand. If we want people to embrace preventive care, we need to make sure it's accessible. #ColorectalCancerEducationAndAwarenessMonth #CancerPrevention #HealthEquity

Early detection plays a critical role in reducing cancer mortality, with many cancers having a high chance of cure if diagnosed and treated early. There are two main components of early detection: early diagnosis and screening. Early diagnosis involves being aware of cancer symptoms, seeking medical advice when abnormalities are noticed, accessing clinical evaluation and diagnostic services, and ensuring timely referrals to treatment. Screening, on the other hand, identifies pre-cancerous conditions or cancer before symptoms arise. Key examples include HPV tests for cervical cancer and mammography for women aged 50–69 to detect breast cancer. By encouraging early detection, we can significantly reduce the cancer burden and improve patient outcomes. #DIMOHealthcare #Cancerprevention #HealthierNation

Cancer is the No. 2 cause of death in Colorado, and colorectal cancer is now the No. 1 cause of cancer death for men and No. 2 for women under the age of 50 nationwide. In 2024, 2,130 Coloradans are expected to be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and 820 residents are estimated to die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society's Facts and Figures 2024 report (linked below). Experts from the University of Colorado were instrumental in helping the American Cancer Society, and later the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), lower the screening age for average-risk patients from age 50 to 45. While screening is recommended for adults ages 45-75, those with increased risk of the disease due to family history or personal risk factors may need to begin screening at an earlier age. CCSP is committed to working with Colorado healthcare systems in order to improve their capacity for colorectal cancer screening.
