In today's dynamic landscape of scientific progress, we often find ourselves drawn to the most advanced technologies and grandest experiments. However, particle cosmologist Luna Zagorac of Perimeter Institute reminds us of the incredible potential hidden in smaller, humbler experiments. https://lnkd.in/eDNhw6yU #cosmology #astronomy #physics

Part-1 of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity explained in simple terms: According to Einstein’s theory of relativity: Time Slows Down Around Heavy Objects: Near massive bodies like neutron star or black holes time ticks at a slower rate due to the intense gravitational field distorting spacetime. Speed of Light Remains Constant: Regardless of the observer’s movement or position, light’s speed is a universal constant at approximately 300,000 kilometers per second. Faster You Move Through Space, Slower You Move Through Time: As your speed increases, time dilation occurs, making time pass slower for you compared to stationary observers. 🎯Follow @go_atomico for more interesting videos! 🙏Thanks for watching, Follow us for the part 2 and more interesting Astronomy videos Join us for ATOMICO’s curious adventures through Space and Time and learn more about astronomy and astrophysics along the way. #space #spacetime #alberteinstein #speedoflight #relativity #universe #astronomy #astrophysics #quantumphysics #blackhole #timetravel #timetraveler #stephenhawking #gravity #blackholes

North and South are not the same. Researchers led by Bruno Arsioli, of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences in Portugal, and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, using data taken during 14 years by the gamma rays satellite Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT), produced a compressed movie of the Sun observed in gamma rays from August 2008 to January 2022. Thanks to the data they discovered that, contrary to the expectations, the solar disk can become brighter on the polar regions when observing the gamma rays. Furthermore, in the south pole, there is a surplus of emissions of higher energy photons with 20 to 150 gigaelectronvolts, while most of the less energetic photons come from the north pole, an asymmetry for which there's still no explanation. The findings have been published in The Astrophysical Journal (7 February, 2024). https://lnkd.in/eG2f9duY #physics #physicsnews #astrophysics #astronomy #heliophysics #sun #gammaray #gammarays

Professor in theoretical astrophysics and part of the AAU Space Group, Thomas Tauris from AAU Materials and Production, has together with an international team of astronomers, made a fundamental discovery within pulsar astronomy 🌌🕳💥 Researchers from the international collaboration "Transients and Pulsars with MeerKAT" have identified the first known system of two orbiting objects, most likely a radio pulsar and a black hole, located in our galaxy in the globular cluster NGC 1851. According to Thomas Tauris, the discovery challenges the limits of the imagination and may lead to clarification of Einstein's general theory of relativity. I am thrilled to share that I received the BRONZE Honour in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2024 in the 'YOUTH' category. After successfully navigating both the Preliminary and Pre-final rounds, this achievement feels incredibly rewarding as the rounds were not easy to conquer. ✅ The qualification round is the first stage which consisted of five astronomy problems that have been published. The problems test the astronomy knowledge, others require calculations. This round not only sharpen my mind but also raised my knowledge about astronomy and astrophysics! ✅ In the PRE-Final round, the problems were more challenging, but even more interesting! It consisted of six different problems that vary in difficulty, points, and topic: 2x basic problems (four points), 2x advanced problems (six points), 2x research problems (eight points). Throughout this journey, I have gained invaluable knowledge and experiences. It has been an amazing opportunity to challenge myself and grow in a field I am deeply passionate about. Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged me along the way. #Aerospace #Astrophysics #Astronomy #IAAC24 #Curiosity #ContinuousLearning #ProblemSolving

Dedicating one’s life to black holes! Andrea Ghez on receiving her Nobel Prize citation and medal on 9 December 2020 in Beverly Hills. Andrea Ghez is an American astrophysicist known for her groundbreaking work in observing the black hole at the center of our galaxy called Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). Using high-powered telescopes and sophisticated imaging techniques, she has been able to observe the stars orbiting around this invisible object. Her research provided strong evidence that a supermassive black hole exists at the center of our galaxy. One of Ghez’s significant contributions has been the use of adaptive optics technology in astronomy. This technology compensates for the blurring effect of the Earth’s atmosphere, allowing for clearer and more detailed images of celestial objects. With this, she has been able to track the movements of stars near Sgr A* with unprecedented precision. Her decades-long study of the stars’ orbits around Sgr A* has not only confirmed the presence of a black hole but also helped scientists better understand the properties and behavior of these enigmatic objects. Ghez’s work has been crucial in providing insights into how supermassive black holes interact with their surrounding environments and influence the galaxies in which they reside. In recognition of her contributions to the study of black holes, Andrea Ghez was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2020, shared with Roger Penrose and Reinhard Genzel. Her achievements have made her one of the leading figures in astrophysics, significantly enhancing our knowledge of the universe’s most mysterious and powerful objects. #stephenhawking #physics #alberteinstein #nasa #science #astrophysics #astronomy #blackhole #cosmos #space #universe #quantumphysics #einstein #cosmology #quantummechanics #neildegrassetyson #spacex #carlsagan #physicist #scientist #elonmusk #nikolatesla #particlephysics #michiokaku #o #stringtheory #physicslovers #physicsmemes #theoreticalphysics #quantumtheory
