Get clear on what you need For most charities, the pressure to do more with less is relentless. That’s hard in the digital age. Many charities have increased their use of tech to be more agile and efficient, or to support new ways of working. But, not everyone is confident they’re making the most of the digital revolution. According to research: ·      2% of charities use tech to its full potential ·      74% are working on it ·      18% aren’t using the potential of tech at all We see this a lot. It’s the result of tight budgets and not knowing what you need. One compounds the other. The solution: Get clear on what you need. You can do this for nothing: ·      Talk to your teams: What’s working for them? What isn’t? ·      Talk to other charities: What tools and tech are they using? ·      Meet with peers: How did they approach digital transformation? From there, a good tech partner can help you identify what’s most pressing for you. They’ll also be able to set a roadmap that works for your budget and your charity. 🌟 Exciting News from The Forge Initiative! 🌟 As many of you know, I have the privilege of serving on The Forge Initiative (TFI) Board. This organization is close to my heart, not only because of its mission to make technology and innovation accessible to all, but also because of the incredible impact it has had on my family and the community. Through TFI, my children have thrived in STE(A)M programs like FIRST Inspires. I’ve had the honor of mentoring the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team PyroTech 3459 the past two years, learning so much along the way. TFI is an Open Innovation Tech Space in the Triangle, where families, individuals, corporations, professional organizations, and universities collaborate to share resources, knowledge, and ideas. Our mission is to empower people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, and experience levels to explore, learn, and lead in technology and engineering. To continue this mission and expand our reach, we are launching a fundraising campaign to secure a permanent home for TFI. Our immediate goal is to raise $250,000, which is a crucial step toward our ultimate aim of a $3 million endowment for a sustainable future. 2024 is a time to experiment with new things. 🔮 Enjoy my first #Linkedinvideo about fundraising in 2024, featuring videos I obviously filmed myself over the course of 2023. 😉 If you're #fundraising as an early-stage founder this year, here are 5 things that have changed, compared to last year. 1. Focus on (a path) to #profitability in 2-3 years, max., instead of 5-7 2. Give a realistic market assessment (TAM), rather than showing the moon 3. Be hyper-focused on your central goal / mission 4. Detail out how you are going to use your funding and demonstrate frugality 5. Celebrate the little wins! Each step is one closer to your #fundingtarget In 2024, there's less appetite to fund moonshots not grounded in reality. Ticket sizes are increasing and more later-stage funding is occurring, as the perceived risk in later rounds is lower. One way to mitigate this risk is to show you've got your profitability down, or have a clear and realistic path to getting there.
