"We partnered with Microsoft, got nothing out of it, it is not worth it". I hear that often from small companies that join a partner program like Microsoft and think they just have to build a vault for the money that is coming in. Any partnership needs work. Especially with a giant like Microsoft. In 2018, when I was working with Microsoft as one of their partners, they were onboarding 6,000 partners a month. They now have well over 450K partners. We had come out of their accelerator in the US and we were fortunate to be hand held by corporate and brought in the offering of their retail and cpg team. Even then, it was a lot of work and fight for relevance. We were one of their investments. They created an offering packaged with us as one of the solutions. They had brought us in front of many clients, and the long sales cycles with major brands got the best of a small company running out of cash and driven by a board vision. We pulled the plug. With all the winning conditions, MSFT's involvement, we still didn't make it. I see so many companies, joining a partnership program and "waiting for it to happen". We brought value to MSFT's clients. We were one of their investments. We were connected with all directors of CPG and RETAIL markets. We had a national launch to their sales teams. And it didn't work. If you join a partner network, if you partner with another entity, make sure you provide value to the partner. Make sure you can articulate and quantify that value for that partner's ecosystem and customers. And when you have figured that out, make sure you work you tail off to be in front of their customers, deliver impeccably and connect at all levels of the organization. You "might" have a fighting chance. Easier with smaller partners but the value statement is the same. #partner #partnerecosystem #sales #salescoaching
