Thank you Osayi Endolyn for the feature! “Spaces like this allow people to have a reprieve,” McGlonn explains. “To pause, to sit still. Often I think, How can we use design to create moments of tenderness and spaciousness, so we can increase our capacity to take care of ourselves? By default, that ripples out to take care of other people.” #ThisIsFitler Condé Nast Traveller Kimberly McGlonn, Ph.D. https://lnkd.in/dgbKSheN

Yesterday, while reading Condé Nast on my way to Padova for a site visit, I was intrigued by their food column, which this month is dedicated to Conde Nast Traveller UK's Top New Restaurant Awards. The current trend in Michelin-starred restaurants is all about #HOME 🏚 . Food should evoke warmth, comfort, and familiarity, described as "proper old-fashioned hospitality" and a return to basics, focusing less on new fads and more on why people go out to eat 💡 . This trend makes a lot of sense, especially after the challenges faced by British hospitality due to Brexit and the pandemic. I find this concept extremely inspiring and believe the #SharedLiving sector is heading in a similar direction. The days of clients asking for something Instagrammable are gone. Design is now more data-driven, based on what residents actually want 📊 . There is no value in a pretty common lounge if nobody sits there and no community is built, and this topic is becoming more relevant in sector-specific conversations. Research by The Property Marketing Strategists shows that residents want more engaging events where they can learn something or create authentic connections. These experiences are crucial in real life, especially for a generation that relies on online reviews for purchasing decisions 📣 . We need to think about how people "feel" in the spaces we design, which is one of my favorite topics, linking back to color psychology and how the built environment can affect human behavior. Taking inspiration from the food industry, let's focus on living spaces that evoke comfort, warmth, and familiarity by going back to basics. As restaurateur Jeremy King said, "As long as what we do is genuine, we have a chance of success." ✨ . If you are a developer or an operator sharing the same vision, please get in touch. Let's have a chat! #InteriorDesign #CommunityBuilding #HospitalityTrends #ColourPsychology #ResidentExperience #DesignTrends #RealEstate #PropertyDevelopment #BackToBasics

This week's #MondaySparks -- three fun, creative ideas in the food industry and beyond to get the creative juices flowing as we head into the week: 1. Operators that focus on a single, unique food always showcase how innovative you can be within very particular limits. Two that I came across on social media recently: Deviled Egg co. which has locations in Texas and Nebraska and offers deviled eggs in flavors like chicken and waffle and "ballpark" (https://lnkd.in/gPXBZm4B - language warning!), and Topped is a concept at L.A.'s Original Farmers' Market that specializes in pickle boats filled with options like Takis and nacho cheese and Nutella with pretzels and peanut butter. (https://lnkd.in/gYujtA_A). 2. Last year Maeve Webster and I went to a glassware boutique in Vermont (as you do) and we still talk about the care that went into wrapping our purchases, bagging them up, and then how the employee came out from behind the counter to hand us the bag in a more personal way, which made the entire experience feel more special. In a different way, these Jellycat stuffed animal pop-ups show how you can turn the final purchase into a fun experience, with vendors in London adding using tongs to "serve" a fried fish stuffed animal and wrapping them in paper so customers don't "get any oil on their fingers" (https://lnkd.in/gV5u8eFS), while the Jellycat Diner in New York smashes the burger stuffed animal on a flat-top (https://lnkd.in/g74Yespc). When you think of that final touch point, whether at foodservice or retail, is there a way you can infuse it with a bit more hospitality? Think of Dairy Queen serving their Blizzard upside-down or Eleven Madison Park leaving a bottle of apple brandy with the check. How can you go beyond just calling out an impersonal number to signify an order is ready? 3. On the heels of a slightly more amorous than usual Olympic opening ceremony, consider the risque Provocateur Hotel in Berlin, which describes itself as "shamelessly sensual." Each room has a "seduction switch" that dims the lights, projects dancing burlesque models above the velvet headboard, and starts playing a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." In an experience-driven era, fun options like this can win over customers -- think about the "Press for Champagne" buttons originally found at hotels and now in development for United Airlines (you can even buy them on Amazon). Imagine a sample button at an artisan supermarket, a "good morning" button at a hotel that slowly opens the curtains and sends two cups of coffee to the door, or something as simple as a "ranch" button in a loyalty app that summons an extra cup of ranch dressing. Welcome back to my second post in the series "Colour and Commerce," where we delve into the fascinating psychology of colors. Today, we’ll immerse ourselves in the captivating world of the color blue. Blue plays a multifaceted role across various sectors. In the food industry, for instance, its psychological effects are intriguing. Blue is often considered an appetite suppressor, which explains why many restaurant owners eschew this hue in their décor. However, blue foods can evoke a sense of uniqueness and luxury—think of blue cheese or a cocktail featuring blue curaçao, an exotic liqueur from the stunning island of Curaçao in the Netherlands, renowned for its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture. The rarity of blue in culinary contexts lends it an exotic appeal, setting it apart from more commonplace colors. As the poet aptly states, “In every shade of blue, from azure to deep, I find a serene promise that soothes my soul to sleep.” The blue sky symbolizes peace and tranquility, making it a favored choice for bedrooms and restrooms. This color is often associated with calmness and serenity, purportedly reducing stress and fostering a sense of well-being. Yet, it also carries connotations of sadness and melancholy, as reflected in the phrase “feeling blue.” Moreover, blue embodies trust and reliability, which is why it’s frequently employed in branding, especially within financial and tech companies. Research indicates that environments drenched in blue hues can enhance focus and productivity—an enticing prospect for any office space. What are your thoughts on the color blue? How does it resonate with you, and what color will you choose next for your whitewash? As I navigate the ever-evolving bar industry, I’ve come to realize how important it is to identify trends that will last—the ones that stand the test of time ☝ At the same time, it’s crucial to recognize what’s fading away. So here’s my take on some trends that might not stick around: 🔻Overly Themed Bars: While fun, these themes can fade faster than a trendy cocktail. 🔻Complicated Menus: Simplicity is key; a well-curated drink list often wins hearts (and taste buds). 🔻Single-Use Plastics: Sustainability is no longer OPTIONAL; it's ESSENTIAL for our planet. 🔻Formal Atmospheres: Today, people crave casual and interactive spaces that feel inviting and warm. At Bar Partout, we're dedicated to sustainability and warm hospitality, shaping spaces where people can connect and create unforgettable memories. Here’s to the future of our industry! 🍻 #BarDesign #IndustryTrends #Sustainability #CustomerExperience
