Kids aren’t as active as they used to be. Worse, it’s affecting their development into adulthood. A new study from Asics reveals a growing “exercise generation gap.” 👉 57% of Silent Generation (aged 78+) reported daily activity during childhood. 👉 Just 19% of Gen Z (aged 18-27) said the same. Dropping out of sports earlier, spending less time outside, and too much time online… kids aren’t getting the ingredients they need to become healthy adults. Globally, Gen Z showed the worst mental wellness scores, averaging 62/100 based on the survey’s scale. [📊: Asics State of Mind Study]

And it's so important to establish exercise habits early. If sports and exercise are a part of an individual's life early, then there is SOME muscle memory and that makes it easier to return to later in life. If it was never there, then the health and fitness journey later in life has more barriers to overcome. Parents, education and society have a huge task ahead to reduce screen time and move more.

This is very worrying... We need to include physical activity, as well as knowledge about physical activity, in our kids' curriculum.

Technology has impacted children’s lives monumentally. The developing smart health ecosystem provides data but as we’ve seen with other areas of our lives - knowledge about a situation isn’t enough to drive change. Changing the worlds approach to our own individual health is a real challenge.
