Love this piece from our very own Laurence Quinn, I especially like his thoughts on risk taking "Are we doing enough today to prepare future generations to take necessary risks, and to be wrong in search of the original?" Enjoy and thanks Laurence and LBBonline - Little Black Book for giving the time and space for this important discussion.

𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 '𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝗱' 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 – quite literally when you're karting with your daughter! 🏎️ But beyond the 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 of racing, it's a constant reminder of how important it is to 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀. In 2017, I authored a book that aspired to help musicians find their one-of-a-kind path forward amidst a shifting marketplace. It was published by Rowman & Littlefield and awarded the Sharon T. Alpi Award for Innovative Arts Entrepreneurship Pedagogy by the Society for Arts Entrepreneurship Education (SAEE). Afforded by the generosity of CU Denver College of Arts & Media, Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship, and The College Music Society, the 2nd edition is now available to all members of CMS and their students without charge. Driven by the belief that education is a lifelong process of learning how to make the world a better place, Becoming an Artist to the World: Music and Social Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century has unfolded out of a sense of urgency to equip the next generation of arts leaders to build a more promising future; a conviction that the arts must play a central role in a society that is joyful, hopeful, and connected; a deep belief that experiential learning is of particular value, especially when student opportunities to succeed are prized, and when student opportunities to fail are present; and a commitment to the notion that career success is defined in three parts: (1) A life of means—the ability to care for those whom you love most; (2) a life of meaning—to do good work that creates lasting impact; and (3) the chance to give back, with special attention to the underserved. https://lnkd.in/g7X7UF8r

Dynamic speaker, dyslexic thinker, challenger and futurist. 'If climate change touches upon everything, then anything can be part of the solution.' - David Hall, AUT
In a world where we have increasing polarisation between left and right, it has occurred to me that there is an opportunity to bridge the gap with different thinking. To quote some lines from Buffalo Springfield, For What It’s Worth (Woodstock, 1969) “there’s battle lines being drawn, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong… a thousand people in the street, singing songs and they carrying signs, mostly say, hooray for our side.” Professor Nic Smith, Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, recently wrote about the fought issue of free speech in New Zealand universities. I must admit that hate speech in any form is blood curdling, but my thinking remains that as a society we need more experience in dealing with things that we don’t believe in. It seems to me that by eliminating free speech we also miss the opportunity for growth. In a world of fake news, our young people are destined to be more challenged than we ever were, and the question is, rather than go tut tut isn’t that awful, what are we going to do about it? Science tells us that we form a first impression of other people in less than one tenth of a second. That makes me wonder if something like this occurs when we are faced with deciding between “fake” and “real” news. We are dealing here with extreme speed, in a world that is already addicted to speed, how might we address the problem? In my design practice, I place a very high value on contextual thinking. By that I not only mean where does an idea come from, or where it’s going, but the human and environmental factors that an idea interacts with on the way. This sort of mental exercise takes time and leads me to think that we need to develop a repeatable pattern for decision-making, one that can be called upon under pressure. I was brought up within the embrace of the Ten Commandments, even though from an early age, I questioned their application. I am still of the opinion that it is thinking frameworks that are missing in our civil society. But, a thinking framework must not be biased, but must open up a discussion about who benefits and who doesn’t in the decisions we make, either political or socially. Brand Strategist at The Conrad Group LLC | 📢 Broadcasting Humanity through Creative Innovation | Leading the Way in Transforming Narratives
🌟 In 2009, at the age of 23, I embarked on a transformative journey, entering my second year of teaching American government to at-risk high school seniors. Little did I know, this would be the year I crossed paths with Chelsea. 🚀 She wasn't just a student; she became a beacon of inspiration. Motivating her to graduate on time wasn't just a job; it was a revelation of intrinsic value and the power of self-worth even for me. My push to help her graduate on time left a profound impact, not just on Chelsea's journey but on my life and teaching as well. It taught me the true essence of teaching goes beyond academics—it's about unlocking untapped potential and fostering self-belief. 🌟 Through uphill battles and overcoming self-doubt, I learned that true success emerges from facing challenges head-on. 💪 Our bond went beyond comfort zones, revealing untapped potential and the ability to achieve unimaginable feats. 🚀 Fast forward to today—Chelsea that year graduated with honors and a 4.0 GPA in 2010. In 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Speech Pathology, which epitomizes the transformative power of self-belief. 🎓 This journey reinforces the lesson: never settle for mediocrity, always aspire for more, and remember your potential is limitless. 🌟 As I build my branding and media company, Chelsea's story continues to inspire me. She is the testament to the power of self-belief and determination. 💼 🚀 #BelieveInYourself #LifeLesson #ChelseysJourney #Transformingthenarrative #PersonalBranding #Branding #BrandIdentity#motivation #entrepreneurship —— If this resonates, drop a like, leave a comment, and connect.
