Another week, another price rise in the European R-PET market. This time it's colourless bales in eastern Europe increasing, but we are also seeing much higher offers for colourless flake as January progresses. Of course, nothing is straightforward with R-PET, and there are still disagreements between colourless flake sellers about where actual price levels sit, with some seeing prices €100/tonne lower than others. Despite this current uptrend in prices across the R-PET market, underlying demand for both PET and R-PET is still low overall, with bottling season still months off. Trip to the beach anyone? Loving this bottle (and liquid) from Seabourne Distillery, a new player in Australia’s vibrant craft spirits scene, based out of Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Seabourne has already racked up awards for its Coastal Dry Gin – a Design & Packaging Masters Award at the Global Spirit Masters (look at that bottle base!), and successive gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. But like most small local producers, it doesn’t have the deep pockets of mainstream brands. That means being savvy with budgets and carefully backing brand-building initiatives that scale. Cue the Coastal Dry Gin’s launch on Small Batch Learning, to make sure channel partners frontline staff are trained up, engaged with the product and ready to recommend. “For a small brand like us, Small Batch Learning has been a revelation," says Hayden Weir, Seabourne's founder and managing director.
