"I'm not like you. I have 38 negative keywords for every positive keyword I add to my PPC campaigns." -Someone who has an 8x ROAS (12% ACOS) at over 25k/mo in spend (a quote they probably said) I recently did an analysis of an impressive account with very little branded traffic, an incredibly high ROAS, and a whopping number of negative keywords. Negative Keywords. They're boring. You think you're above them. It's a task as old as PPC itself. It matters a lot (still). Having 38x negative keywords compared to positive keywords in your PPC campaigns is a smart strategy for several reasons: Improved Targeting: Negative keywords help filter out irrelevant traffic, ensuring that your ads are shown only to those who are genuinely interested in your products. This means your ad budget is spent more efficiently, targeting users who are more likely to convert. Cost Efficiency: By excluding terms that are unlikely to convert, you reduce wasted ad spend. This leads to a lower Average Cost of Sale (ACOS) and better return on ad spend (ROAS). Higher Click-Through Rate (CTR): Filtering out irrelevant searches helps increase your CTR. Higher CTRs often lead to better ad placements and lower cost-per-click (CPC) due to improved Quality Scores.
