Sustainable living has become integral to modern interior design, with a significant focus on lighting solutions. Lighting accounts for 6.2% of household energy consumption, presenting a substantial opportunity for energy savings. As residential properties contribute to 42% of global CO2 emissions, integrating energy-efficient lighting, such as LED and OLED bulbs, is crucial. These bulbs use 70% less energy than conventional ones, reducing both electricity bills and carbon footprints. Moreover, durable designer fixtures enhance longevity and reduce waste. By choosing high-quality, sustainably crafted lighting, homeowners can merge aesthetics with environmental responsibility, supporting a broader shift toward eco-friendly practices in the industry. True luxury is nothing but synonymous with good design. In a world marked by climate anxiety, high-end architecture is finally focusing on sustainability: from meticulous site selection to conscientious choices in construction materials, energy efficiency, and interaction with the surrounding environment. Let’s take a look at some of these pivotal elements in more detail. 1. Sustainable materials While cement is the most common building material, each ton generates up to 900 kg of carbon dioxide, an impressive number. Thankfully, there are modern alternatives that generate fewer emissions and even reduce the overall amount of concrete (made out of cement and water) needed for construction. Steel and aluminum are also being reconsidered by many developers due to their even higher emissions compared to cement. Besides, architects are now embracing materials that are, at some point, “closer to home”. The importation itself significantly contributes to carbon footprints. Indeed, studies on carbon emissions reveal that about 20–30% of total CO2 emissions, which account for most greenhouse gas emissions, stem from international trade. 2. Energy efficiency Heating and cooling represent over half of the EU's energy consumption, making good insulation and passive solar design more than essential to sustainable architecture. What homeowners can do on their end to increase energy efficiency is to install LED lighting and low-energy appliances, which are reasonably priced in the long run. Sustainable architecture transcends mere functionality; it embodies an elegant style that aptly reflects the needs of modern society. ✨ Unlocking the Potential of Repurposing: Transforming Old Buildings for a Sustainable Tomorrow 🌿💡 The Australian Interior Design Awards recognized Campbell House by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer for its sustainable design. The project blends heritage charm with modern design and features eco-friendly elements such as solar panels, passive ventilation, and communal spaces.🌳 What sets these projects apart is their high demand and innovative approach to housing development. The ballot-style approach reveals buyers' and developers' growing awareness of the climate crisis. As AIDA judge Rosie Morley emphasizes, contributing to sustainability is not just desirable—it's essential. 🌍 💬 The success of repurposing old buildings into a brand new model underscores the demand for sustainable living solutions. Buyers and developers alike should recognize the urgency of addressing environmental concerns and make eco-design a top priority. 🏙️🌱 Moreover, the AIDA Sustainability finalists highlight the multifaceted nature of eco-design. From shared living spaces to maximizing existing buildings, sustainable design encompasses a holistic approach to building communities and preserving our planet. 🌐🌿 Designers and builders can take cues from these projects by prioritizing sustainable practices in their work. By considering factors like demolition impact, natural daylight, and supply chain sustainability, we can create a blueprint for eco-conscious construction. 💚 Let's future-proof our buildings and promote innovative, sustainable living. Together, we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for future generations! 💫🌱 #ArcaniteInsight #Sustainability #Repurposing #GreenDesign #Invesment #sustainabledesign #FutureLiving #Development #InvestSmart #AustralianRealEstate #DreamHome #Realestate #PropertyMarket #PropertyInvestment #Businessdevelopment #Australia #InvestmentStrategy #RealEstateAdvice #community

Award Winning Interior Designer | Director @ IPIPL Having completed 300+ luxury interior design projects, We excel in crafting exquisite living spaces. | Presence in India & UAE
Yesterday, at ACETECH EXHIBITION Design Conclave , I had the honor of moderating a panel discussion on The New Era of Luxury Through Design. One question that truly resonated with me was: When clients seek luxury interiors, how do you incorporate sustainability? It’s a question that feels increasingly important in today’s world. Sustainability has always been a topic I’ve been deeply passionate about, though integrating it into ev finishes, which often complicates the focus on sustainable practices. Luxury vs. Sustainability: Every project can be challenging. Many of our high-end clients prioritize luxury and premium Balancing luxury with sustainability isn’t always straightforward. Many clients prioritize premium finishes which can overshadow eco-friendly options. Energy-Efficient Solutions: While I never impose sustainability values, I always recommend energy-efficient materials and solutions. This includes lighting, air conditioning, automation, and plumbing. A New Chapter: This project represents the start of a new era for us, where luxury and sustainability align naturally and effortlessly. Comprehensive Design Approach: Every element—from the landscape and swimming pool to the large deck—has been designed with energy efficiency and eco-consciousness in mind. We’re considering all aspects: lighting, power generation, flooring materials, water efficiency, and rainwater harvesting systems. Commitment to Organic Farming: What excites me most is the client’s commitment to organic farming and sustainable living. This dedication not only aligns with our eco-friendly goals but also enhances the overall integrity of the project. Design Future: This project is a reflection of where I see the future of design heading - sustainability as an integral part of the luxury experience, not a compromise. #acetech #exhibition #luxurydesign #sustainabledesign #ecofriendlydesign #interiorarchitecture #designconclave #luxuryliving #sustainableliving #greendesign #designfuture #ecoluxury

I love this project - it's a great design, but the process was full of specific details that we, on the engineering side, love 🤓💙 Here are some key highlights: - Studying the cavity wall ties is not something we do in every project. We were asked, "Are these high insulative cavity wall ties worth it?" The answer was that while they do break the thermal bridge, choosing slightly lower quality ties at a lower cost allowed us to allocate funds more effectively elsewhere. - Double volume spaces comfort is impacted by warm air rising. The model showed a significant impact - that summer comfort improved for lower spaces, but the office in the mezzanine needed extra attention. - An EnergyPlus challenge arose with a circular corridor around the courtyard, featuring open connections between spaces. Correctly implementing an air walls to avoid over-distribution of solar radiation was key. This also influenced the design and resulted in adding an extra door to ensure better comfort in the living room. - Obtaining client behavior information, like how and when do you use the fireplace? Asking extra questions resulted in a more accurate mode of operation, which has a big impact on system design and "average energy costs," thus influencing the value of insulation. I hope you can see how enjoyable it was to work on this project! 😀
🌍 At Climetric, our commitment to delivering sustainable design solutions extends beyond the Netherlands and South Africa. Here's a first glimpse in a series of our recent international projects: 🏠 Goch, Germany: We partnered with Thijs Tilkin from Bob Romijnders Architectuur en Interieur to create a 'Domus Italica. Through parametric optimization, we designed a highly sustainable home with superior comfort. 🔥 What made this project so special? Climetric proposed leveraging residual heat from the fireplace combined with displacement ventilation in the apex of the living room. We also supported with the detailed configuration of the insulation composition, comparing multiple packages with different levels of insulation (Rc-values). By examining the composition in the finest detail, we were able to generate significant cost savings while still guaranteeing comfortable living spaces. #SustainableDesign #InternationalProjects #Climetric #EnergyEfficiency #GreenBuilding
