Roy Bechtol said he believes smaller courses like the 12-hole planned at Austin Beach Club is the wave of the future. "Golf is a demanding game, to say the least. I think you're seeing a move afoot with younger millennials to play in a way that takes less time and is more fun," he said. "This just opens it up to so much more of the populace to fall in love with the game. It's a much quicker way to spend the day." A 12-hole short course can be played in two hours, versus an average of four to six hours to play 18 holes. "What we're trying to create at the Austin Beach Club is to play real golf, get outdoors, get away from computers," said Bechtol, who is collaborating with course designer Jim Fazio Jr. on the project. "It's a way to get the whole family out in a fun environment." One of my favorite odd jobs to do at our ranges is walk the teeline and pick up baskets as a way to talk to our customers. I had the chance to do that across all 4 Golf Ranch locations in the last two weeks in Dallas, Kansas City (2x), and Brookfield, CT. A few notes from the road: 1. Topgolf comes up a lot. Where we are in a market with a Topgolf, people mention Golf Ranch as their routine range where they can come a few times per month to work on their game, while Topgolf is the place they occasionally go to for an event. In CT, there isn't a Topgolf within ~2 hours, so we fill the void of "the coolest place in town" since we have Toptracer, Power Tee, and sell beer & wine. 2. Chill vibes + Golf = A good thing (and there's not enough of it) We have seating, but it's picnic tables. We have music, but it's country music. We are a driving range, but we have technology. We are golf, but you can come in shorts and a tank top. You can practice with airpods in or bring your whole family (I saw dogs, kids in strollers, and FOUR-generation families at the range) 3. Customers love it when you exceed expectations (and deliver value) "The best $6 burger I have ever had" "I drove 45 minutes because you have the best golf mats" "$20 for a bucket of tall boy beers is the best deal in the area" Nothing like a few good reminders on how our customers think about us and how we can keep delivering value and creating Golf Ranch fans!

For those of us who golf and want more challenging courses to play in FL... Florida is often considered an underwhelming place to play golf. Bland, flat marsh doesn’t have the same cachet as wind-swept cliffs overlooking the Pacific. The Sunshine State stereotype is a course surrounded by retirement homes that looks as if it just rolled off the production line. The state has more than 1,200 courses, the most in the US, but just three on Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses list. But now some developers are betting that Florida’s boggy Martin County, near West Palm Beach, might be the golf mecca nobody ever expected - 16 new course projects are under construction or in planning. Membership queues at Emerald Dunes Club in West Palm Beach and the  Bear’s Club in nearby Jupiter are estimated to be as long as seven years, despite fees of $500,000 or more. A little farther north, the Medalist and Floridian clubs have upped their initiation fees and expanded their member ranks to 300, but they still have as many as 50 people on standby. Apogee Club  1,220-acre property, set initiation fee at $500,000, plans 1,000 members. The club focused on renovating its interior to enhance the experience for both members and visitors while opening up new revenue opportunities. This included converting an underused TV lounge and meeting space into a golf swing room, allowing members to practice their swing virtually on renowned courses. Such an innovation not only added value to the member experience but also created a new revenue stream for the club. In addition to creating new facilities, Enfield Golf Club's renovation included upgrading lighting, replacing floor coverings, and refurbishing existing areas, all within a 14-week timeframe and budget. A notable change involved repositioning the gent's toilets to free up central space, which had previously been underutilised. The club also tackled noise issues by introducing acoustic folding doors, ensuring that the function space and member areas could coexist without disturbances. Similarly, Bedfordshire Golf Club recognised the importance of maintaining high standards to retain and attract members, especially following a surge in membership due to the pandemic. With our guidance, they carved out a dedicated swing room area, showcasing top golf brands and generating additional income. The club also took the opportunity to modernise changing facilities, aligning them with the club’s prestigious reputation. Our holistic approach ensured that the renovations met the needs of members while appealing to prospective guests. These case studies illustrate that by investing in the clubhouse's interior design, golf clubs can significantly enhance their appeal and profitability. By offering advanced facilities, such as swing rooms, and addressing practical issues like noise management, clubs can create an inviting environment that encourages members to return throughout the year. By prioritising high-quality design and functionality and working with a reputable contracting company such as CIC, golf clubs can foster a sense of community and provide a setting that entices members to stay connected to the club, no matter the season.
