🏗️🌱 Steel Recycling - Building a Sustainable Tomorrow Steel is vital to our infrastructure, found in everything from skyscrapers to vehicles. However, producing steel from raw materials is energy-intensive and can be environmentally damaging. Recycling steel offers a more sustainable alternative, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to virgin steel production. At Unimetals, we are committed to efficient and eco-friendly steel recycling. Here’s how we make a difference: 1. Collection, Sorting & Processing: We and our partners gather steel from demolition sites, vehicles, industrial wastes and the community. This steel is sorted and processed before being sent to electric arc furnace mills for melting. 2. Export: We are a part of the UK’s recycled ferrous export & wider EMEA merchant community. The UK currently exports around 8 million tons of steel from recycled sources annually, most of which is shipped to electric arc furnace mills in Turkey, Europe and the Indian subcontinent. 3. Melting & Purification: The steel from recycled sources which we handle is recycled in electric arc furnaces to produce new steel. This electric arc furnace process is typically 3 times less energy intensive than the blast furnace method which uses coal and iron ore 4. Production: Steel from recycled sources is then further processed to make green steel products which are used in construction, automotive fabrication, and production of domestic appliances. Recycling steel conserves resources, is more efficient from a supply-chain management standpoint, lowers carbon emissions, and is more sustainable in the long-term. Together, we can enhance the sustainability of our industries and infrastructure by prioritising recycled steel. With a strong demand increase forecasted due to the energy transition and economic growth, Unimetals aims to position itself at the center of this sector's robust expansion by responsibly meeting metal demands. #SteelRecycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #GreenTech #EcoFriendly #Criticalminerals #Ferrousscrap #HMS1/2 #PnS #shredder #frag

Circularity in the built environment: Maximizing CO2 abatement and business opportunities white paper, written by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with McKinsey & Company suggests that circularity in cement has highest value-creating potential out of steel, aluminum, plastics, glass, and gypsum. "While the annual net value impact of recirculating carbon in the cement and concrete value chain is estimated at a loss of $1.5 billion in 2030, given high upfront costs, a positive gain of $7 billion would be achieved by 2050," says the report. The report notes that value will be primarily driven by mineralization technologies and smart crushed aggregates. https://hubs.ly/Q02hrw6h0 #CircularEconomy #Cement
