𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? With the Chinese New Year of the Wood Snake starting on Wednesday, 29 January and wrapping up with the Lantern Festival on 12 February, I’ve been reflecting on a question someone recently asked me: What’s the difference between Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year? The truth is, it’s about context and inclusivity. The snake symbolises reflection, growth, and personal transformation, so it feels like the perfect time to think about how we honour these traditions. Lunar New Year is seen as the more inclusive term. It reflects the fact that this celebration is shared by many East and Southeast Asian cultures—not just Chinese. It represents a beautiful tapestry of traditions, each with its own unique customs. Using “Lunar New Year” helps shine a light on that diversity and avoids unintentionally excluding anyone. But then there’s Chinese New Year, which is deeply rooted in Chinese heritage. It’s not “wrong” at all—it’s just more specific. For people of Chinese descent like myself, it’s a name that carries pride, meaning, and a strong connection to our cultural roots. In a world of more diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), I can understand why many are shifting to “Lunar New Year” for general references. But in China, it’s still proudly celebrated as Chinese New Year, a tradition that has stood the test of time. At the end of the day, “The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people.” What do you think? Do you say, “Chinese New Year” or “Lunar New Year”? Does it matter to you? ♻️ Repost to help your network. Follow me for more insights blending my passions with purpose. #CulturalDiversity #LunarNewYear #ChineseNewYear

Lunar New Year, the Year of the Snake, begins January 29, 2025 and concludes on February 12th with the Lantern Festival. Factories and businesses across China and other celebrating regions shut down for 1-2 weeks, which has a significant impact on global shipping. There may be a pre-holiday rush due to increased freight volumes as shippers move goods before these factory closures, and ports may experience congestion both before and after the holiday. Get in touch to navigate these challenges, planning ahead is key. ASF, creating exceptional human experiences in global logistics. #humanstandard #logistics #forwarding #lunarnewyear #chinesenewyear

As an expat living in Singapore, one of the most exciting times of the year is Chinese New Year—a season filled with vibrant traditions, stunning lantern displays, and, of course, the highly anticipated long weekend! This year, we welcome the Year of the Wood Snake, a symbol of wisdom, adaptability, and strategic growth. The Wood element represents steady progress and long-term vision, which feels especially relevant in today’s fast-changing world. ✨ What I’ve learned about CNY in Singapore: ✨ ✅ Yu Sheng is more than just a dish – The “lo hei” tradition of tossing for prosperity is such a unique experience! ✅ Red packets (Ang Baos) are serious business – There’s an art to giving and receiving them! ✅ It’s a time for new beginnings – Whether in business or personal life, this is the perfect time to set fresh goals. Living in Singapore has given me a deeper appreciation for how tradition and modernity blend seamlessly. As I embrace another Lunar New Year here, I’m reminded of the importance of building strong relationships, adapting to change, and always looking ahead. 新年快乐! Gong Xi Fa Cai! 🎊 Wishing everyone in Singapore and beyond a year of prosperity, success, and happiness! How are you celebrating this year? #HappyCNY #YearOfTheSnake #ExpatLife #SingaporeCNY #LunarNewYear #ProsperityAndGrowth
