"I still remember the day I got the call. My family in Rusizi was facing an emergency, and I felt the familiar weight of uncertainty. No money in hand, no way to help. But this time, things were different. After years of unstable jobs, I now had consistent work and the ability to plan for the future. For the first time, I had access to my earnings when I needed them most. Fixa’s Earned Wage Access made all the difference.” #WorkerStories #FixaHero #Impact Empowering workers like Maurice to be prepared for whatever life throws their way.

Community Program Office | Competitive Strategy | High Performance Mindset | Advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
🤯 shocking new experience with the Arbeitsagentur today 🤯 Context: I'll receive Arbeitslosengeld (unemployment benefit) during January and February, as my new gig is only starting March 1. I was registered with the unemployment office. I knew communication with my employer regarding official documentation on my case will be difficult, as the employer is based outside of the EU and has no understanding of German laws, social insurances and regulations. Documents where missing all along the way or were incomplete. I was prepared to submit substitute documentation to proof my entitlement to receiving the benefit. Today, 5 days left in January, I learned that there were still missing documents. (I was asking multiple times, everything was ok they said.) Today I was told I wouldn't receive #unemployment benefit in time for January. Only once my employer sends in the missing documents, but I knew this could take until February or so. Asking if it was possible to get a preliminary payment, I was told no. Their justification: The Arbeitsagentur is an insurer, not a social service provider. I was boiling 😤. This was the exact situation I tried to avoid since Oct. The person on the other side of the phone told me I could _try_ to submit my substitute docs to the system and emphasise on my critical situation with my two kids and bills to pay. Maybe, just maybe, depending on who would be working on my case, I'd have a little chance of receiving a preliminary payment. This. In Germany. Incredible. I told them that this exact case contributes heavily to stigmatisation of people who lost their jobs, and is psychologically traumatising, as it is factually *begging for their good will*. In Germany. With a state-owned agency. I told them I would do. After all, I was depending on them paying the benefit. So I ended the call with asking them what the official process for complaints is. Then I submitted my substitute documentation together and this message: To whom it concerns, my case is still missing documentation [...]. This leads to a non-payment of my unemployment benefit during January, and payment can only be done once the missing documentation is submitted to the system [...] This brings me and my family into a financially critical situation, [...]. We're likely to be unable to pay our rent and bills in January & February. Our family includes two kids, and we're dependant on the payment [...]. Together with this message you're receiving my salary [...] and kindly ask you to accept these as substitutions for the missing documentation from my employer. It's always hard to ask for money, but this made me feel nauseous. The feeling of guilt and shame returned. Only a few days after being in the clouds for landing a new job starting in March. And I also heard the good voices from my network, telling me I paid the insurance for 24 years, asking for a few months is absolutely legit. But it didn't feel legit. The story could end here. But it doesn't.

You see a lot on LinkedIn rightly celebrating incredible jobs and achievements. But today, I'm sharing a few stories from workers who mostly aren't on LinkedIn. There are millions of workers still on minimum wage - both in the US and the UK. Here are a few comments from the last few days on Organise that really show what its like right now: “I’m on 6p per hour more than the minimum wage. I’ve just given up my flat and moved into my car as I can no longer afford the rent (the increases have eaten up my savings).” "I work at a foodbank, and we are seeing increasing numbers of people who are in work but still not able to manage to afford all their bills, or who have no savings in case of a sudden unexpected expenditure." "Until we make all politicians at every level work for minimum wage and use Medicare nothing will change yet it will ensure those who really care about us and our systems as those will be the ones to take the offices. How can politician understand the average American struggles when they aren’t in their systems. I’m military and I get a cost of living adjustment annually so why isn’t minimum wage workers treated the same considering you’re aware of the changes?" "There is a 1p an hour difference between an NHS band 2 health Care worker and the minimum wage, its a skilled job, surely that can't be right." "I hear most owner's of restaurants and fast food places say, I will have to shut my doors if I had to pay everyone $15.00 an hour, however they are driving BMWs and Mercedes and I have to drive a truck that needs a power steering pump and has no air. I know my worth and I'm for sure not getting it. I work hard for these establishment's, so do the right thing and pay was our worth." "Workers and families will benefit from a higher minimum wage at work. The nation will endure a major boost in the economy for the good of the consumers. Do It!! Raising the Federal Minimum Wage to $16.22 is more of an issue concerning public policy -- not politics. No More Talk!! Do It!!" Organise members in the US and the UK are pushing for an increase in the minimum wage. Our community was instrumental in the UK's significant minimum wage increase (cited by the Low Pay Commission) and now we're making waves on the hill in the fight for a new federal minimum wage. It’s time for a collective push to ensure the minimum wage reflects the cost of living and provides a decent quality of life for all workers. Join the conversation on Organise and be part of the change. https://lnkd.in/e-6Qstum #FairWages #LivingWage #WorkerRights #Organise

Michael Kill, CEO of NTIA, Welcomes Labour Government: The Real Work Starts Today! "As CEO of the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), I warmly welcome the new Labour Government. Your commitment to our sector, vital to the UK's economy and culture, is appreciated. However, the real work begins now. Our industry faces serious challenges and needs urgent attention to recover from years of neglect through the cost of living crisis and the pandemic. The night time economy thrives on a dynamic young workforce and consumer base whose energy and creativity are indispensable. Their involvement is vital for our industry's success and shaping future voters. We must foster their engagement, as a priority and address their needs to ensure a thriving and inclusive nightlife sector. Our sector must rebuild trust with the new government, after years of feeling misunderstood and undervalued, we must work towards changing the narrative around the value of the night time economy, secure stronger representation at all levels, and create a more integrated regulatory system. We must also address tax disparity, reform business rates, protect independent operators, and align VAT with European standards. Immediate attention is needed in several key areas. Firstly, we urge the new Government to appoint a dedicated Minister for the Night Time Economy. This role will ensure focused attention and strategic direction for our sector at the highest level of government. Additionally, establishing regional representatives will then also facilitate effective strategy, communication and coordination across regions. Independent businesses and culture have suffered heavily over the last four years. Rebuilding and protecting existing businesses, creating a foundation for the future, and funding grassroots spaces and cultural events are essential for recovery. Implementing a heritage protection scheme for venues and cultural spaces will go some way to ensuring the preservation of venues that are integral to our communities. It is crucial to quickly establish a strong working foundation to support the industry in creating safe, culturally enriched cities and towns across the UK. More importantly, we urge you to take time to listen and consult on policies impacting our sector, recognising our challenges and our true value in terms of the local economy, community shaping, and the impact on social, physical, and mental well-being. The new government has a considerable opportunity ahead, with the current majority, there is an opportunity for meaningful and transactional change. We need the new government to prioritise meaningful policy changes, strategic and targeted financial support, and collaborative efforts to shape the future of nightlife.

You're an hourly wage worker living paycheck to paycheck. As you prepare for your morning shift, you go to wake up your child and realize that they've got a fever and can't go to school today. You either need to find and pay a last-minute babysitter, or you stay home and lose a day’s wages because you have no paid time off. What would *you* do? This is an example of the impossible choices that ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) workers face daily.
