We hear it often - start with why. However, we can't just start with it. We have to carry it with us in every conversation along the way. Otherwise, we risk the chance we will sightly 'bend' to accept that donation, to partner with that organization that doesn't quite align with us, or to say yes to the things that seem promising only to realize we have confused our passion - what feels good in the moment - with our purpose - what is at the core of why we are doing anything in the first place. It's so to get off track and not stand on the foundational purpose of our work or our calling. Next week, I will be speaking at the CLA Outcomes Conference on not only 'starting with why' from an organization's perspective, but also understanding the 'why not' of your potential donor and how your purpose is a key part (but not the only part) of the equation to reach the purpose of your audience. I hope to see you there! #outcomes #startwithwhy #CLA24 Christian Leadership Alliance https://lnkd.in/e8zKDSc2

Impact Evangelist and Entrepreneur, building out the impact ecosystem by supporting entrepreneurs and connecting investors with impact opportunities
Is there a link between generosity and good business? Coming from someone in #impactinvesting, you might think that is a loaded question and I'm trying to fool you into investing into dressed up charities. No! Humans are drawn to generosity and it compels us to reciprocate... but only if it is genuine. Whether you live in a world of abundance or scarcity depends on your view towards generosity. My good friend (Sam Barbee) sent me this video of his community's response of generosity to those in need. (https://lnkd.in/gywxNhgB) It starts out showing NewGround coffee. A great choice of coffee but an even better choice of business as they train and employ ex-offenders. NewGround is doing great as a business but the founders Joel Grates and Dickon Morris believe in generosity. They pour it out generously and they also receive it. From Resurgo and Impact Central who helped them start the business and individuals including Sarah Bowles, Jamie Broderick, Charles Eve, Richard Atterbury, Vincent Camerlynck, Patrick Butcher, Alex Edmans, Nahim Afzal, Alastair Colin-Jones and many others who were generous with time and resources to help their business off the ground. Selfridges showed generosity, giving them the prime Corner Shop location when they were just starting and over the last 4 years the business has grown to more than £1m in annual revenue. Want to try their coffee? Head into Jamie Oliver's new restaurant on Catherine Street where they specially selected it for their customers. Generosity is definitely good for business ... and all the other parts of life that actually really matter.

SYDNEY MARKET MOMENTUM: SYDNEY AUCTION CLEARANCE HIGHEST SINCE OCTOBER 2021 Last week marked a significant milestone in the Sydney auction landscape, as reported by CoreLogic. We witnessed an auction volume of 615, and the highest preliminary clearance rate since October 2021 of 80.4%. With nearly 1000 auctions anticipated across Sydney this week, the real estate sector is keenly observing. This expected surge in auction volume is a crucial early indicator of the market's strength in 2024, leading to discussions on whether buyer demand will match the increased supply. The Marshall Group's local market insights observed a slight dip in last Saturday's attendance, likely due to Lunar New Year celebrations. Despite this, the number of contract requests remained consistent, indicating that serious buyers are still actively participating. Housing Loan Market Indicators Recent Australian Government housing data from the AIHW (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare) for the September 2023 quarter reveal ongoing effects of rising living costs and interest rates leaving some Australian families unable to keep up with higher mortgage repayments. There has been an increase in non-performing residential property loans 90 days overdue, with the owner-occupier segment reaching its highest level since the June quarter of 2021, and loans 30-89 days overdue at their highest since the June quarter of 2020. Positively, mortgagee in possession loans have gradually declined since their December 2022 quarter peak. This situation highlights the resilience of the Australian housing market as banks collaborate with clients to overcome financial obstacles, reinforced by the Banking Code's enforceable standards. The Marshall Group's Community Engagement At The Marshall Group, we believe in contributing more than just transactions; our commitment to the communities we serve is profound. Continuing from last week's market wrap, our involvement in local community projects and charities is fundamental to our approach. We believe real estate is about people and their stories, and we are dedicated to enhancing those narratives in a positive manner. This commitment is showcased in our support for local events like the upcoming Bobbo (The Bobbin Head Cycle Classic) in March and the Lindfield Fun Run in May. These initiatives not only foster community spirit and support charity, but they also promote health and well-being amongst our residents. By participating in and sponsoring these events, The Marshall Group underscores its dedication to enriching our community's social fabric. Actors Federal Credit Union, a “cooperatively run, not-for-profit financial organization chartered in 1962 for the benefit of members of Actors' Equity Association,” recently signed a new longterm lease extension for a larger space at 1560 Broadway in Times Square. GFP Real Estate was able to accommodate the nonprofit's growth with a new space on the same floor, "a win-win for both the tenant and ownership,” GFP’s Alan Steinberg told Commercial Observer. The fourth and final post in our “Breathe the Mission into your Fundraising Event” series. If you haven’t viewed our last three posts and videos, please go back and review to fully understand this specific post. We started this series with that special moment watching the children at Academy Prep Centers for Education passionately saying that daily convocation in the school hall. We then saw the teachers, staff, and alumni leading the guests at the Gala event in reciting that convocation. And how about that impactful video that was shown before the Bid from the Heart (Paddle Raise)? Now it's GO time. Time to maximize the emotional impact and transform emotion into giving. At Auction Horizon, we believe everything that happens on the fundraising stage should be with the intent of maximizing fundraising potential and building giving momentum. The wording is intentional. Gestures are intentional. Energy is intentional. Emotion is intentional. We also know that time is of the essence when it comes to maximizing the money raised. For this reason, we work very closely with the client on timing and scripting. Adrian and Da’Shaun, the alumni featured in the impact video shared in yesterday’s post, were able to attend the event amid their busy schedules. The big question was: How do we incorporate these two gentlemen into the giving moment after the very impactful video without losing momentum and too much very precious fundraising time? The result can be seen in this video. Adrian and Da’Shaun walked onto that stage after the video and became part of the fundraising team. The positioning on stage was intentional. The scripting was intentional. They opened the door for Tarryn to introduce that first big level and maximize the power of the give at $25,000. The final part of breathing that Mission into the audience. The result? $125,000 raised on the first level of giving. A few hundred thousand dollars raised over the remaining levels. To sum it all up, many components go into a successful fundraising event, but MISSION is front and center. #breathethemissionintoyourevent #auctionhorizon #fundraising https://lnkd.in/enV42sf9

How the country as a whole shows awareness of not only their own country but other countries around the world that are being deeply impacted by misinformation and disinformation. Brings attention to the lethargy on the part of the reader or listener to seek greater resources to expound on the issues being presented. Acknowledges what a society can chose to expose their citizens to. Truly is commendable and from my own country in the USA, a lesson in seeking and gaining reliable information from ethical resources. It is incredibly expandable to have insights of one's country through the eyes of another's country. Very timely exhibit and article.
"Livraria Lello has been called the world’s most beautiful bookstore, and its Neo-Gothic exterior façade and interior winding wooden staircase draw more than 1 million visitors a year, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Porto—Portugal’s second-largest city. Meanwhile, the book shop’s charitable arm, the Livraria Lello Foundation, aims to use reading, knowledge and culture to promote critical thinking." https://lnkd.in/eyjXe46y
