I’ve been noticing LinkedIn posts about people receiving fake job offers, with increasing recommendations not to share personal details in resumes. Scammers seem to target vulnerable individuals more easily this way. Scamming isn’t new, but there’s now a term for one specific method—Pig Butchering. In this context, the “pig” refers to people like us, who are “fattened up” by gaining trust in scammers, only to be “butchered” (scammed) in the end. There are many resources explaining this concept, but here’s a not-so-short video by IBM on Pig Butchering. It explains how scams often begin with a romance text or a job offer, how scammers use social engineering to extract personal information, and how it ultimately leads to account takeovers, identity theft, and financial loss. Watch the video and share it with others to raise awareness.

Lee Jones thanks for sharing let’s save that date people. Something has got to change in this situation. We got our van broken into twice last year totally crippled us the second time. Actively selecting the wastage percentage on tools is one options we never thought we should have had to use in this beautiful world, now we wished we had that as all our overheads have had to be allocated to replacement tools. This has been one of the hardest parts to owning a small construction company exposed to van theft. Recovery is hard and has other implications down time, loss of income, project delays, can take years to build up the little tools and big commitments repurchasing large tools. Keep the faith people make that day a call to action.
Tool theft is a cruel and damaging crime for tradespeople. It robs hard working builders of the tools they have often taken an entire career to accrue – with little hope of their return – and deprives them of the means to make a living. Shoaib Awan and Trades United are urging legislators to take action and will be bringing the issue to the heart of government with a Van Rally on 3rd February. Professional Builder will join tradespeople from across the UK in travelling in convoy from Brent Cross to Parliament Square, to raise awareness of the issue. If you want to get involved you'll find full details of the event in the link below. #tooltheft Professional Electrician & Installer Magazine PHPI Magazine Toolfair - Professional Builder Live https://lnkd.in/e4Xqs-wB

Kroll offers a “Contractor’s Guide to Combating Construction Fraud” which drives home the importance of Fraud Prevention for construction companies. As they say, prevention is always better than a cure and a lot less expensive especially when it comes to dealing firsthand with construction fraud. By implementing proactive strategies, one can minimize the risk of fraudulent activities within their construction business. Kroll in their 2015 Global Fraud Report offers some additional steps to help safeguard your business: -Create an anti-fraud culture where integrity and ethical behavior are valued. -Establish strong internal controls, such as segregation of duties and dual approvals. -Commit to regular audits and reviews of internal controls to ensure their effectiveness and identify any vulnerabilities. -Invest in education. Prioritize training sessions and workshops that raise awareness about fuel card fraud and other common fraud types in the construction industry. Robust internal controls play a crucial role in mitigating construction fraud. This also involves the segregation of duties, which ensures that no single individual has complete control over a process, further minimizing the risk of a fraud scheme from taking place. Additionally, dual approvals for financial transactions add an extra layer of security and accountability. By implementing access restrictions, you can limit unauthorized access to sensitive systems and information, while regular monitoring and review of internal controls help to identify any gaps or weaknesses and allow you to promptly take corrective action. Before engaging contractors and suppliers, it’s extremely important to conduct the necessary due diligence to protect yourself from fraudulent activities. This involves: -Verify contractors’ personal information, credentials, references, and financial stability to ensure you are working with trustworthy partners. -Are they operating from a “brick and mortar” building, do they have a website or other online presence? -Are there independent reviews posted online? Are they favorable? -Inquire about their past experiences and performance in similar projects. Vetting contractors and suppliers is one example of reducing the risk of encountering fraud and avoiding potential financial losses and project disruptions. Ipsen Due Diligence helps construction companies reduce their exposure to fraudulent actions from internal and external sources. These fraudulent and costly actions often include embezzlement and vendor fraud. We do this through vetting assistance, site visits, and periodic audits. #construction #fraud #prevention #sitevisits #audit #duediligence #embezzlement #vendor #vetting https://lnkd.in/gxcYUQ2d

The Importance of Proactive Security Measures at Construction Sites Construction sites present significant security challenges. Unlike a completed building, where surveillance of workers and visitors is straightforward through controlled access points, construction areas are much harder to monitor. With numerous entrances and exits and the constant flow of contractors and subcontractors, these sites become difficult to secure effectively. Furthermore, construction sites often contain precious materials and equipment that are easy targets for theft. From the surge in the price of lumber and copper due to recent supply chain disruptions in the U.S. to power tools and heavy machinery, these items are both desirable and resalable. According to the National Equipment Register (NER) and National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), losses from construction and farm equipment theft are estimated to be between $300 million and $1 billion annually, with most estimates in the range of $400 million. Signal of South Central Florida is a trusted expert in construction site security, offering professional, insured, and licensed security personnel to safeguard your assets. Our services are designed to make securing your construction site simple and effective, providing you with peace of mind.
