European Atherosclerosis Society becomes the 100th signatory on Global Heart Hub’s Cholesterol Action Plan! The Global Cholesterol Action Plan, developed as part of Global Heart Hub’s Invisible Nation project, aims to reduce the impact of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Supporters of the Action Plan include World Heart Federation, FH Europe Foundation and patient organisations across the globe. “This 100 signatories milestone on our #Cholesterol Action Plan underlines the commitment to address ASCVD, responsible for more than 15 million deaths globally each year. The endorsement from #EAS, a leading voice on #ASCVD in Europe, will help drive forward our four-point plan to ensure unhealthy cholesterol levels are addressed as a public health priority,” says Neil Johnson, Global Heart Hub Executive Director. The 100 supporters, from across 41 counties, will receive specially developed training materials to help them activate change in the way ASCVD is prevented and treated in their country. A milestone moment in our quest to implement change in the way unhealthy cholesterol levels are prevented and managed at local levels to reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), the leading cause of mortality worldwide and responsible for more than 15 million deaths each year. The action plan outlines four clear goals to ensure unhealthy cholesterol levels are addressed as a public health priority: build alliances, raise public awareness, activate alliances, and improve high cholesterol detection and management. The four-point plan proposes measures we can take to meet these goals and activate change in the way ASCVD is prevented and treated.

#BiotechDiaries Cardiovascular diseases caused 38% of the 17 Mn premature deaths (under 70 years) that occurred due to noncommunicable diseases in 2019. Yet up to 80% of premature heart attacks and strokes can be prevented. Globally, several goals have been set to rectify this situation, some of which are: ✅ By 2025, premature mortality from NCDs is to be reduced by 25% compared to 2010 levels. ✅ The global prevalence of hypertension should be reduced by 25% between 2010 and 2025. ✅ By 2025, 50% of eligible individuals should receive drug therapy and counselling (including glycaemic control) targeted at preventing heart attacks and strokes. Throughout November 2023, we’ll look into how scientific advancements are enabling medical professionals to protect what keeps you alive, your heart. Every 5 minutes, someone dies from a lung condition in the UK. And yet there’s a lack of political will to fund the research that could save these lives. Today, the Lung Research and Innovation Group (LRIG) have set out 10 priorities the government and other research funders needs to take seriously to fix the lung research pipeline and fix the nation’s lung health. If the government and other key stakeholders invest in the 10 respiratory research priorities outlined in this report, we will address the largest driver of winter pressures in the NHS, make huge savings for the healthcare system, and serve the needs of the 12 million people in the UK who will develop a lung condition during their lifetime. Today, the Lung Research and Innovation Group have set out 10 priorities the government needs to take seriously to fix the lung research pipeline and the nation’s lung health.   Currently, people with chronic respiratory conditions face significant challenges, including limited access to effective diagnostic tools for timely diagnosis and monitoring of lung health. As part of our Chronic Respiratory Infection Translational Challenge, we focus on progressing discoveries that can intervene earlier, reduce treatment burden, and enhance the quality of life for individuals with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the world ! Unfortunately chronic degenerative diseases are increasing and multi morbidity is now a challenge to health care professionals. Cardiovascular problems may aggravate kidney, liver, respiratory and endocrine problemas and vice-versa. There is need for a multi morbidity approach to reduce disease burden. Preventive CVD therapies can make a lot for people with other diseases. There is need for multidisciplinary approaches to reduce the burgeoning burden of diseases with not only different medical specialties working together but true multi professional health care teams. I'm honored and happy to be invited by the World Heart Federation to participate and represent Brazil on the WHF's Multiple Morbidity and Integrated Care Forum. 💡#DidYouKnow    Even though NAIDOC week has come to an end, MedTech’s ongoing effort to close the gap does not end.   Between 2015 and 2019, cardiovascular disease was a major health issue for Indigenous Australians, causing 3,471 deaths (23% of total deaths) and significantly contributing to the disparity in death rates between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The primary cause of this gap was coronary heart disease (56%).   Efforts to close this health gap and strive for equality have been significantly bolstered by advancements in lifesaving MedTech. The introduction of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantations (TAVI) has played a crucial role in reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease. TAVI has been a leader in treating advanced conditions like aortic stenosis and has steadily improved patient outcomes.
