"Resistance doesn't just help one individual - it's a group action with a group effect." - @tlantic Xplorer. The Atlantic Explorers, an innovative youth collective, delved into the profound concept of 'People, Power, and Resistance' through a thought-provoking zine-making project. Inspired by the Black Atlantic exhibition at The Fitzwilliam Museum, this group contemplated the personal meaning of 'People, Power, and Resistance' and their significance for individuals and communities. Through a series of introspective questions, each student chose a word and reflected on its essence, importance to them, and its broader relevance. They then swapped zines, challenging one another to understand and communicate their peers' perspectives. The Atlantic Explorers perceive ‘Resistance’ as unapologetically being your authentic self, staying grounded in the present moment, and collectively challenging systems of oppression through unified action that creates positive change for all. This collaborative project, part of the FUTURE/POWER partnership between The Fitzwilliam Museum, Museum X, and Soham Village College, empowers young people to engage in interdisciplinary co-research spaces. By exploring complex themes through creative expression, they are engaging with, influencing and developing the knowledge our future societies will be built on. 🔗 Find out more about this inspiring collaboration: https://lnkd.in/eDzaYvMq 🎨 Artwork created collaboratively by members of the Atlantic Explorers collective, Soham Village College. #YouthVoices #ResistanceTogether #BlackAtlanticExhibition #MuseumCollaboration #CreativeExpression #EmpoweringYouth #FuturePower #Codesig

Education has the power to transform...
I pursued my PhD rooted in transformative learning theory, because I believe in the power of education to transform. I have been on the receiving end of this reality. Tonight, I was at Annandale Art and Textile Center when Abigail cut her piece off of the loom as everyone validated this milestone through song and dance. Elizabeth and her team are world-changers, and it is an honor to call her friend.

Walk away. If you discover your values are drastically out of alignment with theirs. If you feel chronic dread upon entering a space, a conversation, a situation. If there is a complete lack of basic regard and consideration. If feeling misunderstood and misrepresented is not the exception but the norm. If you must constantly second and third-guess everything you say and how you say it. If you begin to forget who and whose you are. If your requests--then pleas--for visibility, respect, or value go unheeded. If you express a need for protection and there is no meaningful response. Walk away. Especially in the workplace, but in other places too, there is no reward for long-suffering. In fact, sometimes, there is only an unimaginable price to pay. For me, this was a relationship. For you, it might be something else. But if ever you find yourself desperately looking for yourself right where you stand, walk away. You deserve better. #antoinettecandiabailey #drclaudinegay #blackwomen #bullying #mentalhealth #protection #leadership #underattack #wearethewaymakers #betheway Video: Dr. Antoinette Candia-Bailey summarizing her thesis on identifying the socio-cultural factors that prevent Black women from advancing in higher education.

Celebrate World Art Day by supporting the arts in your communities. "Each year, on 15 April, World Art Day celebrations help reinforce the links between artistic creations and society, encourage greater awareness of the diversity of artistic expressions and highlight the contribution of artists to sustainable development. It is also an occasion to shine a light on arts education in schools, as culture can pave the way for inclusive and equitable education. Art nurtures creativity, innovation and cultural diversity for all peoples across the globe and plays an important role in sharing knowledge and encouraging curiosity and dialogue. This World Art Day is a timely reminder that art can unite and connect us even in the most difficult of circumstances. Indeed, the power of art to bring people together, to inspire, heal and share, has become increasingly clear during recent conflicts and crises." -UNESCO

There have been many stops and starts since beginning my PhD back in 2020, but things are moving forward. Tate's insight page on my research has been recently updated to better reflect the way the research project has taken shape so far - https://lnkd.in/eMkuGhsS 'What are your hopes for the impact of this research? Religion and belief, regardless of position, are undeniable in their importance for many individuals and communities in their sense of identity, belonging and motivations for civic engagement. So, it is striking that the dialogue, particularly academic dialogue, within the arts and culture sector has long neglected conversations on how faith communities can be considered by major public art institutions. I hope this research continues to create foundational dialogues on how our public cultural institutions can consider and connect with religion, as a concept and as communities in a deeper way. Bringing new possibilities to programming, artistic risk and what it means to be a public space for all' #religion #art #artmuseum
