Yesterday, I was fortunate to be a panelist at CABSE. The panel was hosted by the Social Justice Learning Institute, and I joined esteemed experts Maisha Beasley, Ed.D. and Samarah B. It was a fantastic opportunity to share insights, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions to best support our Black girls and young Black women so they can reach their full potential. During the discussion, the words of the Combahee River Collective echoed in my mind: "If Black women were free, it would mean that everyone else would have to be free since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all the systems of oppression." This quote encapsulates the essence of the work we do at STEM to the Future's Build'em Robotics program. Through Build'em Robotics, we are not only teaching engineering and robotics skills to girls in 4th-5th grade, but also instilling in them the power of dismantling systems of oppression through technology. By fostering a social justice lens, we equip these young girls to challenge the racist and sexist biases that persist in emerging technologies. In a world where facial recognition software misidentifies Black women as men and biased algorithms disproportionately impact the medical care of Black women, it is clear that our girls must be at the forefront of creating solutions. Build'em Robotics helps our girls actualize their power and as they reshape the tech landscape, ensuring a more equitable and inclusive future. #PanelDiscussion #SocialJusticeInSTEM #EquitableFuture #PlantingtheSeed

🎉 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭! 🎉 We're thrilled to announce that the Executive Board of ColorStack UFlorida at the University of Florida has just passed its first by-law! After a year of dedicated effort to establish our chapter, this milestone marks a significant moment for us. Our commitment to ethical standards in the tech industry has driven this initiative. We firmly believe that setting a high ethical bar is essential for shaping a more just and ethical future. By enacting this by-law, not only are we setting the ethical standards for our own organization but also inspiring other tech organizations on campus and elsewhere to follow suit. At ColorStack UFlorida, and other non-profit organizations like ours, we prioritize integrity in our partnerships. We understand the importance of aligning with entities that share our values. Let's continue to uphold and cherish these principles, refusing to compromise on our ethics. It's crucial to acknowledge that injustices disproportionately affect marginalized and underrepresented communities. We're proud of the Executive Board for taking this decisive step. We remain committed to being trailblazers, continuously evolving, and inspiring others to join us in setting higher ethical standards. As Angela Y. Davis once said, "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept." Let's keep pushing boundaries and driving positive change together! To partner, sponsor or get involved with us we invite you to send an email to 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐮𝐟@𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥.𝐜𝐨𝐦 and we will get back to you shortly. #TechEthics #DiversityInTech #TechLeadership #InclusiveTech #EthicalLeadership #ChangeMakers #Trailblazers #FutureTechLeaders #ColorStack #UniversityTech

Boards require agility to handle the demands impacting our businesses. How do we become agile? By creating a strong culture that promotes performance and responsive governance. For practical advice on how to make this happen, read the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) report Culture as the Foundation: Building a High-Performance Board. Thanks to the NACD Texas TriCities Chapter for providing this opportunity for learning and dialogue around this topic. Thanks to Anna Catalano, Gaurdie Banister, and Jarvis V. Hollingsworth for sharing their insights.

Have you heard of A Heart for Science from #ZEISS? 💙💙 The objective is to awaken enthusiasm and curiosity for nature and technology among young people. And who could do that better than the people who are already pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible at ZEISS today? Last year we collaborated with TEDx and hosted a workshop for young people as part of the corporate volunteering program #aheartforSCIENCE. 🧪 Children experienced the beauty of plants and insects seen through microscopes, they played with colors and experimented light exactly like us in our daily job.
