I turn complexity into sharp strategies.

Five years ago I had no idea I’d move to New Zealand, then Austria, then Spain, to going back to work for the same employer I left in Brazil. It’s nice to have a vision, but plans tend to stifle creativity and chance. Use them carefully.

This is good to consider and some useful tips in here The only thing I’d say is: don’t worry if you change your mind, or some unexpected opportunity comes along that feels right Being adaptable and open to flexing is always helpful; a plan doesn’t mean you can’t try things not listed nor that you haven’t considered previously

I couldn't agree more. Developing a long-term career plan is essential for achieving not just professional success, but personal fulfillment. It provides a roadmap to navigate challenges and seize opportunities, ultimately reducing stress. Furthermore, a well-thought-out plan enhances your employability, as employers value candidates with a clear vision. Lastly, it allows you to align your career with your passions and purpose, making work more meaningful and satisfying.

Taking notes ✅ I always believe that you own your career goals and plans, and it’s something within our control! Not only do I see this beneficial for myself, but I can see this being a valuable tool to use in supporting team development conversations in 1:1’s with high-potential team members to help guide them to think of some goals for themselves and collaborate on development plans.

I would suggest this: Make it part of your career plan to meet people who are doing cool and interesting things, and then to get to know them. We tend to create plans based upon what we know...which limits our horizons. Chose to pursue learning from others who know what you don't know, but who are doing exciting things.

Invest time in creating your plan and how you will communicate the ultimate destination by showcasing your career journey featuring your past experiences, impact, and ambitions. A powerful visual can go a long way!

Thinking beyond annual career goals to embrace a five-year plan is a strategic move. It provides long-term focus, aligns daily tasks with passions, and allows for skill development. The flexibility to adapt to unforeseen challenges is a key advantage!

I think it’s useful insofar that it helps you reflect in detail on what’s necessary to achieve certain goals and as such give you more clarity, but modern life doesn’t play along and plans can easily change on a yearly basis. Jobs that exist today might not in the near future.
