How about that? Southwest Airlines remains operational during a widespread IT outage affecting other airlines, largely due to its use of the outdated Windows 3.1 operating system, which is 32 years old. This legacy system has shielded Southwest from issues caused by a CloudStrike update that disrupted scheduling systems globally. While many major carriers faced cancellations and groundings, Southwest's reliance on this antiquated technology has unexpectedly proven beneficial in this crisis, allowing it to maintain smooth operations amidst chaos in the aviation sector[1][2][3][4]. #Alert #Delta, #United and #American #Airlines flights #grounded due to communication issue, #FAA says Several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, experienced flight groundings on Friday morning due to a communication issue, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA stated that this ground stop affects all flights from these airlines, regardless of their destinations. The duration of the ground stop is currently unknown, but the FAA indicated that an update would be available by 5 a.m. ET. This grounding followed a significant Microsoft outage that halted Frontier Airlines' operations for several hours on Thursday. Frontier's systems were impacted by the outage, leading the airline to offer refunds to affected passengers. Other airlines, such as Allegiant and SunCountry, also faced challenges with their online booking, check-in, and trip management functions. The FAA announced on Friday morning that all Allegiant flights would also be grounded. According to the Azure cloud software status report site, Microsoft experienced service issues for some customers in the central United States around 6 p.m. ET, affecting service management operations and connectivity. Microsoft has identified the cause and is working to resolve the issue. A company spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Additionally, several international airlines, including Virgin Australia and Qantas, as well as airports across Europe and Asia-Pacific, reported technical disruptions on Friday. #FlightGrounding #USAirlines #DeltaAirlines #UnitedAirlines #AmericanAirlines #FAA #CommunicationIssue #MicrosoftOutage #FrontierAirlines #AllegiantAirlines #SunCountryAirlines #TechDisruption #VirginAustralia #Qantas #AzureCloud #TravelUpdate #AirTravel #AirlineNews #FlightDelays #AviationNews #GlobalTravel
