Today is National Metric Day! Every year on 10/10, the metric system is celebrated for being the measurement system based on powers of 10. It's the most used measurement system in the world, with just a few holdouts using the Imperial system. Even in the Imperial United States, the metric system is predominant in the fields of science, technology, energy, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals, among others. #WhySoImperial You can observe the metric system today by measuring in meters, drinking in liters, and weighing in kilograms... and behold the power of 10! #NationalMetricDay #MASTest #MaterialsTesting Image description: A grayscale micrograph taken using a scanning electron microscope, showing more than 70 spherical particles that each measure about 1 micrometer.

👨🔬 𝐖𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐨𝐟𝐟-𝐭𝐡𝐞-𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐀𝐮𝐍𝐏𝐬; 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲: Kimialys is more than just our K-One® technology. While K-One® is indeed a game-changing innovation, the true strength of Kimialys lies in the expertise of our biosensor engineers and chemists. Kimialys' gold nanoparticles are used in various applications, such as Lateral Flow Assays, more innovative applications like LAMP-LFA, specific LC-MS characterization, or the early detection of ADAs. While we often highlight our technological platform (K-One®) and our expertise in bioconjugation, in fact, we have never explained why we choose to synthesize our own nanoparticles instead of buying them from a commercial supplier — here are the reasons: 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥: synthesizing our own nanoparticles allows us to maintain strict oversight, ensuring they are uniform in size and shape. To achieve this, we have implemented three validation processes: ➡ 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐲: this technique examines the optical properties of the nanoparticles by assessing their absorption spectrum, providing critical information about their size distribution and uniformity. ➡ 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐃𝐋𝐒): this measures the hydrodynamic volume of the particles, giving us additional information about their size and shape. ➡ 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐋𝐅𝐀): we also perform functional tests using Lateral Flow Assays to verify consistent performance. 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: by synthesizing nanoparticles in-house, we eliminate the risk of delivery delays and logistical issues. This ensures we have immediate access to the nanoparticles when needed, without the need for large-scale liquid storage. Additionally, producing them ourselves significantly reduces costs, allowing us to allocate resources more efficiently in other areas. By controlling both the quality and availability of our gold nanoparticles, we ensure optimal performance and efficiency across our applications. A special mention to Vincent Pellas for supervising the entire synthesis process of our gold nanoparticles, ensuring excellence every step of the way. #nanoparticles #AuNPsynthesis #inhouse
