An effective sand dump system is critical for upstream production systems experiencing sand and abrasives, especially in wells that employ a mix of sand and frac fluid during the drilling operations. These wells will produce higher levels of abrasives before leveling off into a more suitable fluid flow, which is sent to downstream processes from the wellhead. The sand dump system captures and removes these abrasives present in early production operations to protect downstream equipment from wash and damage, thus resulting in downtime reductions and cost savings for the end user. Additionally, automated systems allow for accurate monitoring of sand and fluid rates to enhance system safety and minimize the risk of operator error in dumping too early or late (increased efficiency). Either case, too early or late, can result in issues that range from minor, such as inefficient/wasteful dumping schedules, to major, such as releasing gas into the sand tank or atmosphere.
