It seems that every thread discussing security careers is populated by people giving out incredible advice - and NONE of them work in or are qualified in security. Most of them have nonsensical job titles that are IT adjacent. We're already seeing 'cyber recruiters' starting coaching businesses to take advantage of the gullible and desperate in the industry. Sure, they are suitable to advise on job hunting, CV's and all that lark, but that is about getting a JOB, not developing a CAREER. If you take unqualified advice and listen to uninformed opinions, that makes YOU the asshole, and YOU own the consequences. And for the rest of you? How about you all shut the fuck up and stay in your lane? Your 'right to an opinion' ends where it could mislead and cost other people time and money.

Thoughts on this? When I have applied for some positions, the company wants to create a profile. Once I registered and start filling out most my information, it requires your full social security number. I don't feel comfortable having that in their system. I understand once you have received a job offer which is understandable for background checks but this needs to be removed in the initial process.
