EPG are frequently approached by developers and contractors who have either not installed ground gas, VOC or radon membranes or do not have sufficient verification. We have a fantastic environmental monitoring team and are able to monitor inside buildings and under floor venting systems for all these gases as well as using more advanced methods, that are unique to EPG, to measure floor slab gas permeability and tracer gas testing to determine the gas ingress routes and importantly how fast it is entering a building. However gas monitoring of any kind is our last choice. We follow the guidance in CIRIA Report C795 and the fiirst thing to do in these situations is to take the original data to re assess the risk and see if gas protection was actually needed. By applying our advanced analysis methods to existiung data we can often solve the problem without the need for monitoring. Even if we need to do gas monitoring we can normally avoid having to test all the buildings in a development. This is beneficial for everyone as the issues are resolved more quickly and at lower cost. We also usually avoid the need for costly remedial works, but if they are needed we will advise on simple cost effective solutions that are risk based.
