That’s all well and good and I agree something needs to be done with The Grand but there are fundamental issues that need fixing first. Scarborough has a massive pothole issue and the council seems to think that filling the holes with gravel will fix the problem. There’s a massive issue with drainage in Falsgrave park causing it to be either a bog or an ice rink. The council won’t grit it in the winter for fear of liability if someone has an accident, in the meantime, residents, especially the older generation fear taking a walk in the winter because they don’t want to fall. The A64 has had “talks” about it being a dual carriage way for years, when will this become a reality? There’s plots of land/warehouse at the back of Morrison’s that would be ideal for rock climbing/ice rink/trampoline centre to encourage residents and visitors all year round. What will be done about the fact there are Poundlands and charity shops but nowhere to encourage locals to shop local building a sustainable local economy? Surely these are issues that should be tackled before injecting millions of, presumably tax payers’ money into a project that will take years to come to fruition or is this a project for you purely to attract voters?
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. The choice is between the bold action we need, or more of the same. Others will stand by as our heritage disintegrates. I will rescue it. They’ll accept decline. I’ll reverse it. I have a grand plan for Scarborough. This isn’t a hotel renovation, it’s a revolution. And this isn’t just about one town. It’s an example of the level of my ambition for North Yorkshire. Eyesores transformed at long last. Civic pride restored. The high street brought back to life. 🗳️ Thursday’s vote will determine the future of Scarborough, and our whole county. We don’t normally give much credence to Daily Telegraph towns rankings, as they tend to be pretty subjective. But this week’s list of Britain’s prettiest and ugliest towns does show an interesting trend in their analysis of the worst towns. Three of the top four ranked as the ugliest towns (Cumbernauld, Telford and Slough) are new towns and the language that’s used to explain their inclusion in this list is pretty excoriating. Whether its Telford’s “risible personality free architecture”, “dour retail parks and cookie-cutter urban sprawl” or Cumbernauld’s “concrete savaged centre” described as “soulless and inaccessible, something like Eastern Europe before the wall came down”, the message is clear: towns with no clear identity to speak of are struggling. This is particularly timely, as the Government is about to unleash a host of new towns and the New Towns Taskforce call for evidence closes next week. We are all firm supporters of the Government’s ambitious housing targets – and applaud Keir Starmer’s piece in the Times this week, which challenges Whitehall, Councils and housebuilders to raise their ambitions. But in the process we need to make sure we don’t rush to make the same mistakes as the past. That means new towns aren’t just functional places. They need to be what people want and have a clear identity, sense of place and soul. And let’s not forget what Nye Bevan, one of Labour’s most celebrated figures, once cautioned. “While we shall be judged for a year or two by the number of houses we build, we shall be judged in 10 years’ time by the type of houses we build.” If we get new towns right we will not only strengthen Britain’s identity and sense of belonging. We may also turn the page on an era of concrete monstrosities and put the Carbuncle Cup out of its misery. #Newtowns #housing #regeneration #community #placemaking

THE HISTORY AND PRESENT STATE OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN AMERICA CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: BROKEN #HOMELESSNESS IS THE RESULT OF DECADES OF THE FAILURE TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL. DON'T BE FOOLED BY SLICK PROMOTIONAL POSTS THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOUR LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS ARE SOLVING THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS. WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS MUST ASK: AT WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYERS AND HOW LONG IS THE AFFORDABILITY PERIOD? EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, density bonus increase, waivers of impact fees, or other government benefit or incentive did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project and, if the affordability period is not in perpetuity or permanent, WHY NOT? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants in the affordable housing units will not be displaced after an "affordability period expires? Any LOCAL, STATE or FEDERAL official that does not MANDATE "permanent" affordability periods or affordability "IN PERPETUITY" for any project receiving some government benefit is commiting MALFEASANCE and should quit, be removed from office or be terminated. IN MOST CASES WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, the public and taxpayer are being fooled into thinking their elected and appointed officials are solving problems, when in fact, all hey have done is "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" to burden a future generation with the same problem or crisis!
We've created a catalog of resident-centered housing features that help strengthen the landlord-tenant relationship and support renters’ well-being. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYgPv6Un

This isn’t a quick fix—it’s a long-term commitment to helping customers and communities thrive. Place based working is a concept that shifts from a one-size-fits-all approach to one that understands the unique needs of each community. Building on lessons from neighbourhood coaching and insights from others, our first pilot has launched in Staple Hill, South Gloucestershire. It's Tuesday, so we're on part two of a five part series on the challenges that Main Street directors face in their daily work. Part 2 is about property owners. If your downtown has properties, you have property owners! What's your relationship with them? Do they live in your town? Are they hard to track down? How do you share information with them? We hear from Main Streets often that their relationship with the owners of local property is strained: Absent, non-committal, or at worst combative towards your causes as a Main Street org. Whether you have a property owner that is fully invested in your vision of your downtown, or one that's using their storefront as storage, your goal is to build a better relationship with them. What kind of information could you give property owners to build a better relationship? We have some ideas we're working on (stay tuned for Friday) but we want to hear from you as well. #mainstreet #knowledgebase #propertyownership
