Alison Simpson, command historian for the Florida National Guard, recently gave remarks during the 17th annual commemoration of the end of the 2nd Seminole War, Aug. 17, 2024. The ceremony is dedicated to the service members and Native Americans that fought during the historical Florida Seminole Wars in the early eighteen hundreds. The Florida National Guard maintains this tradition in order to preserve the foundational history of both the state and the Guards' evolution throughout the years. #FLNG #Floridafirst #rightreadyrelevant

September 11, 2024 The border crisis has been moved, by the Biden/Harris Administration, across America to your state where your state tax dollars will have to deal with all the medical, hospital, educational, housing, crime and other costs for the millions of illegals. An army of terrorist “gotaways” are now in America. An estimated 100,000 gotaways a month, 1,200,000 a year. Are they criminals, sex predators, mentally ill, human traffickers, gang members, drug cartel members, terrorists or sleeper cells? An army of terrorists now in America will make the 911 World Trade Center look like a warm-up and no one is paying attention! Only 19 terrorists to take out the World Trade Center and we have over one million, per year, “gotaways” that crossed the border. Just think what 190,000 terrorists will be able to do. The border and America are not secure. Our cities are not safe. America is not safe.
Today, we remember the immense sacrifices made on September 11th, a day that forever changed our nation. We honor the bravery of the first responders, the strength of the survivors, and the memory of those who perished. On this Patriot Day, let us stand together in unity, as we always have, to remember and to proclaim: Never Forget.

As I glance at the folded flag encased on my shelf, memories flood my heart. Each fold represents sacrifice, valor, and unwavering dedication to our nation. Let me share the symbolism behind this revered emblem: The First Fold: Holding the flag by its edge, I fold it lengthwise. This initial fold reminds me of the unity that binds us as Americans—diverse yet indivisible. The Second Fold: Another lengthwise fold follows, ensuring the blue field with its stars remains visible. It’s a reminder of the sky above, the vastness of freedom our heroes defended. Triangular Folds Begin: Now, I create a triangle by bringing the folded edge of the striped corner up to the open edge. This fold signifies honor, duty, and sacrifice. Forming the Second Triangle: Turning the top outer point inward, I shape another triangle. It represents resilience—the ability to endure and protect. Continuing the Triangular Folds: I repeat these folds until I reach the blue field—the heart of our flag. Thirteen folds in total, each carrying profound meaning. Tucking the Excess Material: The final fold tucks the excess material into a three-corner triangle—a “cocked hat.” It symbolizes liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. This folded flag isn’t just fabric; it’s a testament to selflessness. We fold it with reverence during memorial ceremonies, honoring those who gave their all. Let us #neverforget the sacrifices made by our heroes—their legacy lives on in every fold. #memorialday #veterans

For years I'd ignored... a book because I didn't think it had any relevance to my research. It is, lightly edited, the "personal recollections" of Sgt. John A. Porter who served in Co. B, 76th Regt., PA Volunteer Infantry (1861-1865). My great-grandfather (Joseph Evans) had served in Co. K. Due to a lack of knowledge about military configurations, I had no idea that Co. B AND Co. K served at the same time and participated in the same battles. Recently I had an opportunity to visit the GAR Museum in Philadelphia and speak with the archivists. Once again I was directed to this book. What made me want to get a copy? Learning that the two companies didn't serve consecutively (one being depleted or withdrawn and others formed to replace earlier ones), but that they served concurrently! No one had mentioned this to me in the past and I'm sure that I had pointed out the difference in companies. As it turns out, this may be as close to a "Regimental History" as one gets for the 76th Regt. PVI. Yes, Bates has the list of battles, servicemen and "outlines" it movements. Porter provides (as I like to say) the "grunts" perspective. "Conversation" can be so important when doing a job. Between hearing what others are talking about (and learning from them), as well as the tangents they can take resulting in "Ah Ha!" moments. It may takes years and, definitely, speaking with the right people. Luckily, before it was too late, I learned the value of Porter's work and Chisman's compilation of it. https://lnkd.in/eVdyutqV

As Memorial Day unfolds, it's more than just a day off or a time for barbecues. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. It's a day to acknowledge the debt of gratitude we owe to those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom and way of life. Memorial Day is a time to remember not only the soldiers who have fallen, but also the families they leave behind. It's a day to recognize the immense sacrifices made by military families, who endure long separations, frequent moves, and the constant fear of the unknown. But amidst the somber reflections, there is also room for gratitude. Gratitude for the freedoms we often take for granted. Gratitude for the quality of life we enjoy, made possible by the dedication and bravery of our armed forces. And let's commit ourselves to ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain. Let's work to build a world where freedom and justice are not just lofty ideals, but lived realities for all. Let's strive to create a future worthy of the legacy left to us by those who have gone before. This Memorial Day, let's remember, let's reflect, and let's give thanks. But let's also recommit ourselves to the values & lets ensure a brighter future for generations to come. #MemorialDay #Gratitude #RememberTheHeroes #RememberAndReflect

He said, "You're not some charlatan on the Internet." Do you take breaks and get outdoors? Yesterday, I took a walk in the local George Washington State Park and Campground in Glocester, Rhode Island. This park has a fascinating history. In the 1960s, an Australian naval unit waited for their ship, the HMS Perth, to be completed in Newport. During their stay, they created a trail system in honor of Aboriginal culture, called the Walkabout Trail. Afterwards, I had a meeting with an old friend interested in investing. I enjoy meeting people and helping to raise awareness about real-estate investing. Yesterday, I learned, "Pete, you're doing it, and I know you; you're not some charlatan on the Internet." Trust is hard to build. I've known Walter Steere for more than 20 years. So remember, it takes time, and you may be seen as some charlatan on the Internet at first.
