This is something giving me slim slivers of HOPE in these tough times: A LIST!? Yes, a list of “114 Names for the New Economy.” Why? Because every name on this list--and every person/organization/movement cited as the “primary origin”—represents a focus, intention, shared sense that the economy is not like the weather, something that cannot be changed and we just have to endure it; but a system that exists because we have made and allowed it to exist-- as such, we have the agency, right and responsibility to shift what is so broken in our current economic system and make it right.   Each one of these 114 represents efforts underway to hospice the old and midwife the new. Each one of these 114 represents individuals, teams, groups, networks, coalitions across the globe waking up every single day and applying themselves to the hard work of moving towards a better vision for an economy that actually works for all people and the planet, not a privileged few. An old system will never willfully yield its power, prevalence and position. Never. And current systems are really good at co-opting and manipulating glimmers of new futures to fit their own purposes. This work will not be easy, it will take decades, and it's happening all around us. The good news is that there are so many cracks in the existing system. There are 114 efforts (and more!) out there to make them bigger, offer new visions for a better economy and viable pathways to get there.   While the work of the crew at New Capitalism Project is not on this list, I’d like to add our work to make a cool 115.
