The FMA is proud to celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in medicine and work to empower the next generation of women who will influence the future of healthcare in Florida! We begin by recognizing the first woman to be inducted as President of the FMA, Dr. Kay Hanley. Did you know that up until 1993, women were largely excluded from participating in clinical trials? About three decades later, women remain underrepresented in clinical trials. They account for about 29-34% of participants despite being half the population. This #WomensHistoryMonth, we honor and celebrate the women who have taken part in important research to help doctors better understand how treatments impact all people, and we invite women to learn more about clinical trials and how they may help play a part in bridging this gap. 👩⚕️Today is National Women Physicians Day, and I want to honor the nearly half a million female doctors in the U.S. Their dedication and commitment set a high standard for others to follow. 👩🏽⚕️But it’s not enough to set aside a single day for #womenphysicians when they are helping patients, seeking to improve working conditions, and supporting their colleagues and families every day of the year. 👩🏿⚕️The best way to celebrate is to advocate for changes in our healthcare industry to break down barriers like the status quo and access to decision-makers that hold women back and often drive them out of the filed altogether. #BarrierstoWomen #WomeninMedicine #HealthcareLeaders #WomenPhysiciansDay #WomeninMedicine

An important message from one of our founders: Elevating the Imperative of Women's Health in Clinical Research Dear LinkedIn Family, Stakeholders and Family Offices In an era where our discourse is rich with aspirations for equity and inclusivity, it becomes increasingly imperative to confront the nuances of neglect within our healthcare system—especially in the realm of clinical research. While the intentions behind offering thoughts and prayers are undoubtedly noble, it is high time we pivot from passive empathy to proactive empowerment. The landscape of clinical trials and research in women's health presents a stark tableau of oversight and underrepresentation. This scenario is even more pronounced for minority women, who stand as the most underserved demographic in clinical research. Such a disparity is not merely a statistic but a reflection of systemic inertia that we must vigorously challenge. Amidst the echoes of advocacy for holistic and botanical interventions in addressing women's health crises, one cannot help but notice the subtle undertones of gaslighting—an insidious suggestion that the current deficiencies in research and resource allocation are mere figments of collective imagination. Let us be unequivocally clear: The scarcity is real, the neglect is tangible, and the repercussions are profoundly detrimental. Our current healthcare challenges, exacerbated by environmental conditions, underscore the urgency of diversifying and expanding clinical research. Among our research priorities is the investigation into the correlation between bioplastics and tumor development—a subject that not only demands immediate attention but also epitomizes the broader issue of environmental impacts on health. The time is ripe for a paradigm shift. We must channel our collective energies and resources toward establishing more comprehensive clinical trials that encompass the diverse spectrum of women's health issues. By doing so, we not only honor our commitment to gender equality and health equity but also take a definitive step toward dismantling the systemic barriers that have perpetuated this oversight. In conclusion, while we appreciate the solidarity expressed through prayers, let us also remember that tangible action is the cornerstone of meaningful change. Allocating more funds and resources towards women's health research is not just a necessity—it is our moral imperative. Sincerely, Karen Chase
