Inspiring week at The Global Tipping Points workshop at Dartington Hall in Devon, led by the Global Systems Institute, University of Exeter, UK. Harmful tipping points in the natural world pose grave threats to humanity. Discussions focused on critical timing for change, with Prof Timothy M. Lenton highlighting the risks posed to our planet's life-support systems and societal stability. A stark reflection on the rapid rise in CO2 levels from 402PPM to 426PPM in just 10 years underscores the urgent need for action. The key question remains - what will it take to drive rapid change towards renewable energy, reduce fossil fuels, and safeguard the planet for future generations? Let's continue these vital discussions and support the scientific community in advocating for Positive Tipping Points- solution based innovation. Together, we can champion change, expand solutions, and amplify our collective voice to enact the urgent transformations needed today. #GlobalTippingPoints #PositiveTippingPoints #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #UniversityofExeter #GlobalSystemsInstitute #BezosEarthFund #EarthCommision #SystemsChangeLab #Systemiq

🌏 Systemic change requires us to reimagine how we eat, move, work, consume, invest, live and view the world (Tàbara and Chabay, 2013). It also requires practical changes in how we manage our lands and oceans, raise and spend public money, phase in/out affected industries and train/retrain workforces and redesign cities, energy systems and transport networks. Huge decisions need to be made about the kind of world we want to live in. They must be addressed with a clear understanding of the real risks we face, as well as the opportunities. Civil society, local communities, policymakers and businesses need to be at the heart of co-designing this better future and able to trust each other to deliver a just transition (Devine-Wright et al., 2022; Laybourn-Langton et al., 2021). Politicians need the support of a public mandate and a majority political coalition to enact policy changes 🛑 While the report stipulates our energy transition to solar and wind and Electric Vehicles as Positive Tipping Points I beg to differ. When you do a deep dive into each you realize that we are not transforming energy use, we are building additional energy capacity to consume more. Same with EVs a huge market as it needs to replace annual Automobile production to 80 Million a year with a CAGR of 5%. We are still building roads requiring natural resources extracted for free. Rubber Tire particles are polluting the globe. Rubber tires are made of synthetic polymers and natural rubber. Externalities are still not costed into the entire lifecycle. Nickel is mined in rainforests that need to be cut down. 1kg of Nickel creates 100kg of waste that is dumped at no cost into the environment. We are still not sufficiently solving our problems, too much kicking the can down the road. Still too much BS and BAU. Is there change happening? Sure, but I remain in my position that it's not happening at the speed required to prevent some level of catastrophe. #planetaryboundaries #planetaryhealth #biodiversity #metacrisis #polycrisis #systemschange #systemsthinking #globalrisk https://lnkd.in/gYx5CkeF

Senior Executive and Director in Renewable Energy - Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Interesting article which examines 5 wide ranging scenarios exploring the reduction in Global CO2 emissions and the impact on temperatures. None of the scenarios achieve a temperature increase of <1.5 degrees. I watched Napoleon over the holidays (very good), and this has me wondering what a historical film of the early 2020s might look like in 300 years' time.

Congrats Rémi for this very clear talk at #collegedefrance about the impossibility of “hyper mobility” without fossil fuels! Your mastery of orders of magnitude, as always, has supported a relentless demonstration that strong #sobriety is unfortunately mandatory to successfully stop the use of fossil fuels by 2050 due to climate threats, even if innovations since then deliver strong improvement wrt current alternative solutions. Thanks Jean-Marie Tarascon to invite Remi in your famous course, and Gaëtan Bonhomme, PhD for your energizing talk explaning capital risk, so useful to support “Death Valley crossing” of innovative technologies! Considering that strong sobriety is mandatory, an open question is the way to boost energy (and money) dedicated to societal -not only technological- innovation in that area… Capital Risk doesn’t seem to be the solution ! #sustainability #mobility #climatechange #ptef #shiftproject #energy

Leadership for a Transforming World: Leadership Coach, Facilitator and Convenor: creating islands of coherence in you, in us, for us.
#ReThinkHongKong conference starts tomorrow. Here are some questions that delegates should be asking: Which events within the conference hold the most promise to turning around ecological collapse? Which initiatives most directly and urgently address the crossing of planetary boundaries that has already happened? And which solutions are the wishful thinking of business-as-usual trying to sustain itself against the forces of nature? #Degrowth is the #OnlyWayForward. #ReFeel

The topic of increased GHG emissions can be divisive and troubling and this video is informative and encouraging. Maggie discusses some frightening realities of the excessive GHG and suggests pathways for us to reduce the damage. Many of us suffer from a sense of doom and gloom and it is important for us have some hope. We need more environmental advocates like Maggie Hanna who give us hope and spur us into action. https://lnkd.in/gty6RYYz

Earth Month is a time for us to reflect on the role we play in protecting our planet. Climate change poses a significant threat to the Earth, and we have been warned that we have only two years to save the world. If we do not take action, global warming will exterminate life on the planet by 2030. Let's take a moment to appreciate the efforts of a homegrown nonprofit that is educating people on climate change and sustainability. Their work is crucial in achieving a sustainable future. Remember, there's no planet B. It's time to face the truth and take action. Ask yourself why the negative energy ERIO deficit continues? We cannot solve the energy problem today, with old technology. If you want different positive results, you have to do different things "Albert Einstein" Check out the link for more information. Join the movement towards!
