After the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria in 2017, the Caribbean island of Dominica chose to take radical action in the face of climate change: become the first climate-resilient nation in the world. Now, they have a plan to make that vision a reality. “Climate Blueprint: Dominica”, a documentary by ODI and Twenty Twenty Studios, explores what it really means for a small island in the Caribbean to become climate-resilient while still reeling from the impacts of colonialism, slavery, natural resource extraction and environmental degradation. It imagines what a resilient future could look like, and how Small Island Developing States (SIDS) can be a model and resource for the rest of the world on climate ambition and resilient design. The documentary – presented and co-produced by ODI Senior Research Fellow Emily Wilkinson, alongside Director and Producer Sarah Gerber Howard – comes after the introduction of the UN Loss and Damage Fund, which has increased attention towards examples of adaptation and resilience from those on the frontlines, such as Dominica. On 30 November, we are pleased to premier this short new documentary to an invited audience and members of the public at Rich Mix in Tower Hamlets, London. Following the screening, a short Q&A will be held with the film-makers and CEO of the CREAD - Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica). #ClimateBlueprintDominica #ClimateResilience #COP28

Imagine a world where the rhythm of nature is drowned by the drumbeats of war, a world where the struggle for survival propels us into a dance of desperation. The winds of change carry not only whispers of environmental upheaval but also the sobering echoes of battles fought over diminishing resources. Let us recognize that the fight against climate change is not only for the preservation of our planet but for the safeguarding of our shared humanity. In the face of adversity, let us rise as one, transcending borders and divisions, for it is in unity that we shall compose a new symphony—a harmonious coexistence with nature and with one another. #YourPlanetEarth #planetearth #saveenvironment #ClimateChange

🗺️ BeyondSnow: Unveiling the Vulnerability Map Did you know that understanding how vulnerable our mountain regions are to climate change is essential for their resilience? The BeyondSnow project is creating a Vulnerability Map, a tool that will empower mountain communities to assess their climate change vulnerability and make better choices for the future of their territories. In this video, Andrea Omizzolo of Eurac Research explains how the map is made and its benefits. The Vulnerability Map will be further refined with local communities in our ten pilot areas to ensure the most accurate picture possible. It will then be made freely available to all communities across the Alpine arc.

I am only halfway through this and can already say it is a must read. Akshat Rathi's storytelling breaks down meaty topics like crowding private capital into climate solutions into easy to understand sentences. Also, in one or two paragraphs he has been able to explain how solar cells and carbon capture technologies work - it's high level but now I understand and can stop pestering the engineers and scientists I work with.
My copy of Akshat Rathi's new book "Climate Capitalism" just arrived in the mail and I can't wait to dig into it. I will be quoting its opening line at nauseum from now on. "It is now cheaper to save the world than to destroy it"

National parks, once symbols of America's pioneering spirit, now face a dire future in the wake of climate change. Glaciers are melting in Glacier National Park, the giant trees of Sequoia National Park are being consumed by flames, and even the resilient cacti of Saguaro National Park are struggling in the face of relentless drought. It's a lot to take in... But amidst the devastation, there's a glimmer of hope. Native American tribes, like the Tohono O'odham and the Blackfeet Nation, are fighting to protect their sacred lands. They're showing us that we can adapt and find solutions even in the face of adversity. #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #NationalParks #Environmentalism
