We saw Tayo Oviosu's tweet and thought it's best we do a simple clarification on how E-signatures and Digital Signatures aren't the same. Although not widely known, E-signatures are valid and admissible in the law courts in Nigeria. The Nigerian Evidence Act section(1)(a) of the cybercrimes act of 2015 states “ E-signatures regarding the purchase of goods and other transactions shall be binding” For those who aren't aware, there is a stark difference between E-signatures and Digital Signatures. Yes, people use them interchangeably, but they have different features, and they perform different functions.    E-signatures – are those various methods used to sign a document electronically.  This can be done by signing/drawing your signature on a document with your hand, using a stylus pen, or scanning a hand-drawn signature on paper and then applying it to a soft copy document. Digital signatures, on the other hand, are a type of signature that offers a higher level of security and authenticity to documents. It isn't the normal signature that you know of. It is rather a protection measure used to prevent tampering or forgery of documents. You can say digital signatures are used to 'seal' documents. For establishments such as banks and insurance, it is very important to make use of both to fast-track processes and cut time wastage in resolving typical document issues. Half of the time, when client signatures are needed or sensitive documents need protection – clients do not need to physically come to banks and do not need to send a courier or a trusted person to send documents when tools such as Flowmono help process and fast track all of these in a short time. We hope this thread makes it a bit clearer how E-signatures and Digital Signatures aren't the same. To read more on this, you can visit our blog for a deeper dive. https://lnkd.in/dz7pEcbG
