CCPP stands for Combined Cycle Power Plant, which is a type of power generation facility that combines two different cycles to maximize energy efficiency. In a CCPP, the first cycle involves the combustion of a fuel source, such as natural gas or diesel, in a gas turbine. This combustion generates high-temperature and high-pressure gas, which is then expanded through a turbine to produce mechanical energy. The second cycle, known as the Rankine cycle, utilizes the waste heat from the gas turbine exhaust to create steam. This steam is then expanded through a steam turbine, generating additional mechanical energy. The steam is later condensed back into water and recycled in a closed loop. By combining these two cycles, CCPP power plants can achieve higher overall efficiency compared to traditional power plants. They are known for their ability to generate electricity more efficiently and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
