Ockam a leader in enabling secure transport for data in motion, found themselves at a crossroads: their growing #monorepo pattern not only complicated local dev, but also created enormous complexity in CI. After experimenting unsuccessfully with tools like Bazel and Gradle, Ockam found their solution in #Nix, the proven open source build- and package-management platform. Adopting Nix enabled Ockam to: - Standardize their build processes; - Simplify onboarding for new contributors; - Align their local dev and CI environments; and - Enable reproducible builds across local dev and CI. "Across all of the options you have for monorepo tools, Nix has worked best," says Ockam CTO Mrinal Wadhwa. "I feel like a very similar set of people … who are building complex systems that require lots of different languages, who expect their teams to grow rapidly, will go down this same track," he says. Read about Ockam's journey and discover why platform leads, SREs, DevOps engineers, and other demanding users rely on Nix to solve their most Wicked Problems. https://hubs.li/Q02MrhS80 #NixOS #Flox #DevOps #CI

Great article from Beth Pariseau on the AtomicJar, Inc. acquisition by Docker, Inc. One of the most widely used open source packages for unit test of microservices and container-based applications. I would see that Docker uses the commercial version to build out more enterprise-wide visibility into entire applications, which may be built out of 10s of microservice containers. It will be seen if the OSS users of #testcontainers are the winners or losers in this transaction. There are good models to make them winners. Always great to be in the same article with Paul Nashawaty and @Kelsey Hightower
Docker, Inc adds #shiftleft tests with AtomicJar, Inc. / #testcontainers buy. The deal comes with assurances that Testcontainers will remain #opensource, and at a time when enterprises are strongly embracing shift-left, per Paul Nashawaty. Also features analysis from Rob Strechay. #devops #shiftlefttesting #CICD #softwaredevelopment via TechTarget News

🚀 Excited to share a tool I've been working on that's now ready for the developer community: Dockerfile Generator Script! 🚀 In the world of software development, efficiency and automation are key. That's why I created a Python script designed to streamline the creation of Dockerfiles. Whether you're building microservices, deploying web applications, or working with any containerized environment, this tool is here to simplify your workflow. 🔹 What is it? The Dockerfile Generator Script allows you to quickly generate Dockerfiles by specifying parameters such as the base image, commands, ports, environment variables, and more through a simple command-line interface. It's all about making Docker more accessible and less time-consuming. 🔹 Who can benefit? - Developers looking to speed up their Dockerfile creation process. - DevOps teams aiming for higher efficiency in CI/CD pipelines. - Anyone interested in containerization and looking for a tool to facilitate Docker deployments. 🔹 Key Features: - Easy-to-use command-line interface - Customizable Dockerfile components (Base image, CMD, ENV, EXPOSE, etc.) - Ideal for automating and integrating into build pipelines I believe in the power of community and open-source collaboration. Hence, I'm inviting all tech enthusiasts, developers, and DevOps professionals to check out this tool, provide feedback, and contribute to its growth. Let's make containerization easier for everyone! Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to connect with me for collaborations or any questions about the project. 🌟 Check it out here:- https://lnkd.in/gNKjwK_d #DockerfileGenerator #DevOps #Containerization #OpenSource #SoftwareDevelopment

Thanks for the influence, #Weaveworks! From 2018: https://lnkd.in/gcYcEZrF A Commenter: "The approach works fine if the config is human readable so you can see what has changed on the diff. If you are diffing things like machine generated json or xml you have already lost the battle." ...and if you ever get to total declarative capture of the system's state, you've lost the war too! Just as in war, where total domination can lead to diminishing returns and unforeseen consequences, reaching 100% declarative coverage may, paradoxically, result in a software system that's less soft! Its another software engineering trade off... 😄 Where do you set the slider🎚? #gitops
