Nad Hussain Great News for Britvic! Britvic has made a positive start to its new financial year after seeing a jump in sales over the Christmas period. During its first quarter to 31 December, group revenue climbed 8.1% on a constant current basis to £443.5m, with volumes up 1.7%. The soft drinks maker experienced a “robust” quarter for its core GB division, with revenues rising 6.9% after both its retail and hospitality channels experienced growth. In Brazil, revenue rose 21%, including the benefit of a recent acquisition, while other international markets saw revenues increase 6%. Ireland led the way with growth of 12.5%, while France was up 1.1%. The company hailed “strong” trading in December, with revenues jumping 12.1% and volumes up 6.4% after the group benefitted from like-for-like growth and recent acquisitions.

70% of business partnerships ultimately fail. 😩 If you want to avoid becoming a part of the statistics, you’ve got to select your business partner wisely. 💡 ✅ When you and your potential partner have similar values, you’re creating a solid bedrock to build your business upon. ✅ When your motivations match up, you can propel each other forward. That alignment will keep you going when you face big obstacles and tough decisions. ✅ Don’t partner with someone just because they want to partner with you. Partner with someone because you like them and want to partner with them. ✅ During conflicts, we both need to know how to navigate with grace. Franco Ng [黄泳華] and I came together in 2017 to start One Tax CM. Our vision was to provide our clients the “Lexus Experience” at a price of a Toyota. We believed collectively, we can truly create something special. My background was in tax and his was in audit so we were able to bring our diverse skillsets to the practice. I was the de facto sales person and he was the process and operations coordinator. He was an Arsenal fan while I am an United fan. Negotiations are a part of everyday life no matter what we do for work or who we work with. We are constantly making 'deals' everyday with our co-workers, employers, neighbors, family and sometimes even strangers. Have you ever wondered about the #behavioralscience of how we negotiate at work and in life? Are we #fair, #unbiased and #equitable in our #negotiations? The last 2 days at our Executive Education at Warwick Business School we did a lot of role playing for our case studies and it was fascinating to see how much of our real life personalities were showing up into the 'fake deals' we were making. For our first case study we were all given a random playing card and asked to make a 1:1 deal with another classmate either as a buyer or a seller. We also had to make a decision on how to split the profits. Nanna Skau and I decided to pair up since we both naturally tend to #cooperate. Since I had the higher card, Nanna allowed me to shop around for a better deal - she was creating additional #value for me even after deciding to let me win! Alfie White had a higher number card as well and we could have easily combined our cards for the highest total but how do we split the difference? Alfie had no incentive to let me win but could I do what Nanna did and let Alfie win? What was my #incentive to let him win when I had a good chance to win as well? In the second case study we were working as groups and negotiating IP rights between two divisions of the same organisation. One of the divisions developed the product but was not allowed to sell externally and the other division could sell it externally and had a large external market for the product. We were asked to compete against each other and not think about benefiting as 'one' company but benefiting our own divisions. The two teams below Alfie White Mara Frisch Stephanie M. Morley Philip Larmouth and Ir. Ts. Edzwan Anwar (P.Eng., P.Tech.) managed to find the #pareto frontier that not only benefited both divisions but also created value for the entire business (exactly what we were not asked to do 😅). How did we get to better deals and create win-win scenarios? ✅ We were as #transparent as we could afford to with the other party ✅ We were interested in making the 'pie' bigger than just splitting it (creating additional value #together, going beyond numbers) ✅ We did not want maximise our utility at the cost of the other party ✅ We prioritised #relationships over winning ✅ We saw #longterm value in #cooperation (and long term losses if we defected) What would you add to the list? #behaviouralscience #wbs #negotiationskills #winwin #valuecreation
