We are excited to announce Fluxon Academy’s upcoming Product Development Bootcamp in partnership with Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine this June. Fluxon’s CTO, AJ Ross, plus 4 of our incredible engineers, Maryna Skrypnyk, Bohdan Matkovskyi, Dmytrii Puzyr, and Nazar Repak will be leading this week-long event. With the help of their Fluxonian mentors, students will be led through both theory and practice of how to create and pitch their own products, ending the week by pitching their newly-developed product to their Bootcamp cohort. Students will learn how to start a career in product development, bootstrap products, fundraise and build an outstanding team. We can not wait to see what amazing things they create, stay tuned for more updates soon!

Hackathons are underappreciated as mechanisms for product and cultural growth. As a founder, I find them super powerful. Hackathons are now a biannual tradition that our entire team at Sardine looks forward to. After the hackathon, I can feel the palpable energy in the company. In a lot of ways, it's a cleansing of the mind and soul from the day-to-day grind. We’re also remote-first, so we don't have as many opportunities for a water cooler conversation. Hackathons are an amazing way to get folks to have organic conversations and build. We dedicate just 2.5 days and it's incredible what our teams are able to build. And pretty much every project has a working demo. My favorite part about the hackathon is that the entire company participates, not just engineers. Insights 🐟 Operators are great problem solvers: Projects where someone from a non-eng team has a problem they have been itching to find a solution for, and then have the opportunity to collaborate with engineers to build the solution. It's often a problem they have wanted to solve but haven't been able to prioritize, or a new fraud trend we recently heard from our customers which we want to detect. 🐟 Make space for bottoms up: Founders or the product leadership team don't necessarily come up with the entire list of projects that the team should work on - just like any other person pitching an idea, we pitch a few as well and let our team then organically figure out who wants to work on what. 🐟 Get right into the product: This year, we instituted a new award “Founders award” to honor the folks whose last year’s hackathon projects made it into our product. And it was a whopping 50% of projects. 🐟 Be customer led: We also invite our strategic customers to come and participate as judges. Often our judges are highly involved and have suggested a new project idea to us that we then give them a demo of. This year, we had 4 judges: Matt K.V. (3CI, SIP, ECFE, CPFPP) from Novo, Josh Hofer from Stearns bank, @Bryan from Black Hawk Networks and Ilan Zimmer from Coinbase. When I posted a few weeks about how play is an important cultural element to move a company forward I got a lot of reaction. One of those was from my friend Gagan Biyani at Maven. To build a culture of experimentation, you need *some* structure. It provides safety and allows for a range of acceptable activities. Strategy, hackathons and design sprints are all good ways to provide both structure and flexibility. I’m excited to share more about this in my talk with Gagan on Friday. 🚀 Throwback to My First Hackathon 🚀 It feels like just yesterday that I participated in my very first hackathon, and the memories are still vivid in my mind. 💭 The energy, the excitement, and the spirit of innovation were palpable throughout the event. Collaborating with fellow developers, designers, and enthusiasts, we embarked on a journey of creativity and problem-solving. From brainstorming ideas to late-night coding sessions and finally presenting our solutions, every moment was a testament to teamwork, resilience, and the thrill of pushing boundaries. Reflecting on that experience, I'm grateful for the valuable lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the sense of accomplishment that came with tackling challenges head-on. Thrilled to share my recent experience participating in the HackBangalore hackathon organised by AngelHack on May 11th and 12th! Teaming up with Prince Kumar and Bindushree Bade, we dived into an intense 24-hour coding marathon. Although we didn't take home the prize, the knowledge and skills we gained were invaluable. Here are a few key takeaways: - Enhanced problem-solving skills by tackling real-world challenges. - Improved our understanding of collaborative coding and teamwork. - Gained insights into the latest technologies and industry trends. - Networked with talented peers and industry professionals. - Refined our project management and time management skills.
