Something new has arrived! Since 1990, Deutzer (since 1993, Deutzer Technische Kohle GmbH) has been a pioneer in overhead line measurements. What started as a groundbreaking system for measuring shocks—leading to significantly increased lifetimes of contact wires and contact strips—has evolved into a comprehensive solution. Over the years, we’ve added capabilities to measure heights, staggers, thickness, profiles, arcing, current, voltage, contact resistance, uplift forces, and even thermography. And with over 1000 measurement campaigns carried out on 6 continents and at over 130 different transit authorities, it’s safe to say we are market leaders in this sector.
As we continually innovate, in early 2023, we embarked on the development of a new continuously installed monitoring system. This system is designed to detect overhead wire heights and staggers, shocks, UV arcing, and uplift forces, and it delivers real-time alerts to our customers.
After a long and dedicated journey, we are excited to present this system to the public as planned. In the lead-up to InnoTrans 2024, we are conducting a survey at the Tramway of Brandenburg/Havel to compare the findings of our FDS4 measurement system with the results from the new monitoring system. While we acknowledge that a roof-mounted system will not be capable of recording overhead wire wear for many years, making our FDS4 system essential for state-of-the-art overhead wire measurements, we are pleased to see that this new system is already delivering reliable results for heights, staggers, and shocks as expected. We will continue on this path to provide our broad range of customers with an additional solution to identify potential issues before they become critical.
We would like to extend our deepest thanks to the ILB (Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for significantly co-financing this project over the past 1.5 years, making its development possible.
