We're busy adding the final touches to containers for an exciting project in Uganda 🇺🇬 Once the containers are primed, we move on to painting, where choosing the right colour is essential. Paint colour plays an important role in determining how much sunlight and heat are reflected. This is particularly vital in hot climates, where a higher albedo can help maintain cooler temperatures 🌡️ Can you guess what colour these containers will be? 💡 — 🪰 Follow Flybox® to learn about insect farming, and the moves we're making to take it global. #Flybox #insectprotein #insecttechnology #insects

As we head into Spring, the days are getting longer and the weather is starting to perk up - sort of. In the UK, managing weather conditions can be a real challenge sometimes when it comes to growing outdoors. Whether it’s through extreme droughts and high temperatures, or through flash floods and storms. Any farmer who has had to deal with the challenges knows that these scenarios can wreak havoc on their crops and fields. As you can imagine, it’s not ideal! This is where vertical farming can come in. This method of growing uses vertically stacked layers indoors, allowing farmers to grow in a much smaller space whilst protecting the crops from the weather outside. There's no worry about a sudden drop in temperatures or the risk of too much rain. Learn more about the benefits of vertical farming https://lnkd.in/dXZHQR2t

#Agroforestry is part of #NbS that aim at solving societal challenges such as lack of enough trees, poor soil fertility, lack of adequate animal fodder, heat stress, lack of fruits, low biodiversity score, etc. in farming landscapes. It can also be used as a NbS for climate adaptation. If done correctly, the livelihoods and Biodiversity benefits are huge.

✓How Hydroponics operates and Advantages of Hydroponics?🌱🍀🌿🌱 The basic principle underlying hydroponics is quite simple. With hydroponics, you can precisely regulate the amount and duration of light that the plants receive. It is possible to monitor and modify pH levels. Plant development accelerates in a highly personalized and controlled environment. Most risk factors, such as illnesses, pests, and other trespassers (animals and birds), were decreased by managing the environment. 🟢 Benefits of Hydroponics🌱 1.The Hydroponically grown plants can be grown all year round due to the enclosed atmosphere. With this strategy, growth and yield can be improved. One can have a higher plant density without sacrificing yield. 2.Plants produced hydroponically can be grown anywhere. 3.Less water used than with conventional farming techniques. 4.Reduced insect issues and total eradication of diseases and pests transmitted through the soil. #Hydroponics #Agrico🌱 #UrbanFarmer #Farmingislife

#MangroveConservationDay 2024. Mangroves sequester carbon, enhance coastal biodiversity and support the livelihoods of coastal communities. On this International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, we present the Fishbone Irrigation technique for restoring mangroves. In collaboration with Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, we started a mangrove restoration project in the Pulicat Lake region (A.P). ICFRE designed the Fishbone technique and the project is supported by the A.P Forest Department (Sullurpeta). A Main Canal and Feeder Canal network system is used to channel water in elevated intertidal areas with no continuous water flow. Overall project focuses on creating physical and ecological conditions necessary for the sustainability of mangroves and also supporting local communities in pursuing alternate livelihood opportunities like crab and mussel farming. #mangroves #CoastalEcosystem #biodiversity #livelihoods #climate #ClimateAction #impact #sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

Seed Balls: A Sustainable Solution Originating from ancient farming, seed balls were popularized by Japanese farmer Masanobu Fukuoka. This method promotes ecosystems with minimal intervention. In Kenya, seed balls address deforestation and land degradation more efficiently than traditional tree planting, which is labor-intensive and often less successful. Benefits of Seed Balls in Kenya: Cost-Effective: Inexpensive to produce and distribute. Protection from Predators:Clay coating prevents seed predation. Enhanced Germination:Compost provides essential nutrients. Ease of Distribution: Easily spread by hand, vehicle, or drone. Minimal Soil Disturbance: No extensive soil preparation needed. Community Involvement: Simple creation and distribution encourage local participation. Scalability: Adaptable to various project sizes. Handy Directory of Hub Projects The #SNSWInnovationhub website now includes a full list of #droughtresilience projects being supported by the hub. Working through our network of partners means the hub’s contribution to the region’s productivity and drought preparedness sometimes goes unnoticed. However, we currently facilitate some $30 million of investment across 14 major projects. These are now conveniently categorised and described online. This makes it easy to sort through our projects and activities across: • The Agricultural Innovation Hubs • Cross-hub collaboration projects • Drought Resilient Soils and Landscapes • On-farm water management • Forewarned is Forearmed Climate Coaching • GRDC National Risk Management Initiative • Regional Soils Coordinators • Baselining drought Within each of these categories, you can drill down into specific projects, from our educational Stock Containment VR project to the new GRDC RiskWi$e investment. Visit the SNSW Innovation Hub website and click ‘Our Projects’ to learn more. https://loom.ly/X-M7OyM #farminginnovators #farmingforthefuture Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry #futuredroughtfund
