❄️ There has been more snow earlier this winter in much of The Balkans than last year. This has allowed skiers to set out earlier to the mountains. The Bansko ski area – Bansko and the Pirin Mountains are shown in this post's picture – even brought forward the opening of the ski runs by a week. 🌞 This bout of early, generous snow does not change the long-term trend of climate change: less and more unpredictable snow cover, shorter seasonal snow cover, and uncertain future for any ski run below 1,600 metres in elevation. 🎿 The significant challenges for skiing in relatively low-altitude mountains such as those in the Balkan countries remain. A silver lining is ski mountaineering – given the relatively low altitude, ski mountaineering is actually growing rather strongly in mountain ranges of the Balkan region. Another area these countries can promote is actual walking – snowshoeing.

Australia demonstrates its geographic diversity today with the country's temperature ranging from a low of minus 13.5 degrees (below zero Celsius) in the southern plateau of Tasmania, to a high of 31 degrees (above zero Celsius) in the Northern Territory. That's a temperature range of 44.5 degrees Celsius across the country on the one day. I’ve been closely following the snow conditions in the French Alps, and it just keeps getting better. Resorts are already boasting excellent snow levels, and the forecast is looking even more promising. ❄️ In the next few days, nearly 50 cm of fresh snow is expected, ensuring perfect spring snow conditions for weeks. March is such a special time to ski. You’ve got great snow, longer days, and usually more stable weather. Personally, I love how the mountains feel this time of year—less crowded, more relaxed, and the skiing is just as good (if not better). Plus, it’s hard to ignore the value: deals like 7 nights in an apartment and a 6-day ski pass for under 😁 €300 per person are hard to beat 💪 . For me, skiing in March is all about enjoying the perfect mix of sunshine, fresh snow, and incredible views. What about you?
